The Virginia/DC Preseason All State was held on Saturday, February 11th at Tuckahoe Sports Inc in Henrico, VA. 40 athletes from across the state were in attendance and performed in front of the PBR scouting staff. We began the evaluations process with our Stats Story and Rapid Reaction. Today we begin our player analysis from the event with our Corner Infielder Analysis. A very talented a deep group as a whole with plenty of offensive talent and players to watch.

Top Performers

Hunter Gilliam 3B Fuqua 2018 (Longwood) 
Gilliam is 6-0 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, strides on line with smooth load back, good rhythm. Good hips, very good balance, strong swing. Short to ball with level swing and extension through it, good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 101. At third, above average footwork and soft hands, clean exchange. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with short arm action, position velocity was 80. Home to first time was 4.34.

Jack Darcy 3B Lake Braddock 2018
Darcy is 6-3 with a lanky frame, hits from the left side from an upright balanced stance. Short stride on line smooth load back, good rhythm to swing. Good explosion in hips and good balance throughout swing. Short to the ball with extension through it, quick bat works uphill through the ball, line drive hitter with some power potential, exit velocity was 91. In the infield, good footwork and above average hands, plays through ball well into a quick clean release. Short, quick arm action from three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 87.

Ryan Clawson 3B Cosby 2017
Clawson is 6-0 with a strong lower half, hits from the right side from an athletic stance, short leg kick stride and slight load back. Good hips and balance throughout swing. Short to ball with extension, working slightly uphill with a bit of a pull approach, gap power with an exit velocity of 89. At third, clean footwork and above average hands. Quick, clean exchange throwing from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 78.

Mason Mitchell 3B Covenant School 2019
Mitchell is 6-0 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, short leg kick stride and short load back. Some hip explosion and balance during his swing. Level line drive swing with extension through the ball, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 80. At third, good footwork and above average hands, clean transfer. Throws from low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 73.

Jacob Mustain 1B Hickory 2018
Mustain is 6-1 with an athletic frame, hits from the left side from a balanced athletic stance. Toe tap stride and smooth load back with slight wrap, blocked off hips and some balance during his swing. Short, level swing with good extension, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 94. At first base, gets body behind ball and has average hands. Short arm action from low three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 80.

Lane Pearson RHP/1B Gaia 2019
Pearson is 6-6 with an athletic projectable frame, hits from an open stance, short stride on line, smooth load back, good rhythm. Hips show some explosion and good balance to swing. Short level swing with a good approach working the middle of the field, exit velocity was 86. At first, gets behind ball and fields with a wide base, average hands. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 77.

Nicholas Rini LHP/1B Powhatan 2018
Rini is 6-3 with an athletic frame. Hits from the left side from an athletic stance, short stride on line, slight load back with a bit of a wrap. Explosive hips and some balance. Short to ball, works a bit uphill with a quick bat, exit velocity was 89. Line drive swing, showed good approach working middle of the field. At first, gets behind the ball with average footwork. Average hands, clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 80. 

Cody Willis 1B Powhatan 2018
Willis is 6-2 with a strong lower half, hits from the left side from an open athletic stance. Short stride closed, smooth load back, good rhythm to swing. Some hip explosion and some balance during swing. Short to ball, works uphill through it with good extension. Worked gap to gap in his round, but clearly has some power, exit velocity was 90. At first base, good footwork and above average hands, fields with wide base. Clean exchange, plays through ball, throws from low three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity was 80.
