Preseason All-State Underclass: Corner Infield Analysis

The Preseason All-State-Underclass showcase took place on Saturday, February 25th at Lawrence North HS in Indianapolis, IN.  The invite-only event featured 67 players in the 2019-2021 classes.  

We began the roll-out of the event a few weeks ago taking a look at the Stat Story and then the outfielders.

Today we continue the analysis with the corner infielders in attendance. 

Top 5

1.Josh Ham, 1B/LHP, Decatur Central HS, 2020

Big, strong frame, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds.  Offensively the LHH hits from a balanced setup, big load back, short stride/dives at times, average lower half, maintains balance.  Quick bat speed, uphill swing plane, pull-side hitter with raw power. Registered a high exit velocity of 85 mph.  Defensively, sure hands, clean exchange, throws topped out at 76 mph.  

2.Reese Sharp, RHP/3B, Noblesville HS, 2019 

Athletic, lean frame at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds.  Offensively, hits from an athletic/open setup, long stride, average lower half, maintains balance throughout the swing.  Showcased quick bat speed, regularly gets to extension producing gap type power. Fluid rhythm, good approach at the plate.  Registered a high exit velocity of 89 mph.  Defensively, soft hands with fluid feet, quick exchange, plays through the baseball with athleticism.  Loose, ¾ arm action with carry and accuracy. Throws topped out at 84 across the diamond.  Ran a 7.64 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.

3. Cole Gilley, 3B/RHP, Columbus East HS, 2020 

6-foot-1, 190 pounds. Offensively, athletic setup, smooth load, small leg kick timing trigger, over rotation with the lower half.  Fast bat speed for his age, gets to extension, pull-side hitter with power potential.  Overall good approach at the plate.  Registered a high exit velocity of 90 mph. Defensively, showcased above average glove work with fluid feet, clean exchange.  Plays through the baseball.  Loose, short high ¾ arm action across the diamond, throws topped at 84 mph with carry.  Ran a 7.84 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.  

4.  Brodey Heaton, 1B, Castle HS, 2019 

Big, strong frame at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds.  Offensively, balanced setup, smooth load back, over rotation with the lower half, average balance throughout the swing.  Above average bat speed, slightly uphill swing plane, gap to gap type power, HR power potential.  Fluid rhythm.  Registered a high exit velocity of 88 mph.  Defensively, throws topped out at 77 mph. Clean exchange, sure handed 1B.  Ran a 7.99 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.

5. Adam Hummel, 3B, Penn HS, 2019 

Strong, projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds.  Offensively, slightly open/crouch setup.  Loads back, toe tap timing trigger, average lower half/over rotates at times.  Possesses above average bat speed, showcased pull-side power.  Fluid rhythm.  Consistent loud contact during his BP round.  Registered a high exit velocity of 86 mph.  Defensively, fluid footwork with a clean exchange, plays through the baseball, average glove work.  High ¾ arm action with accuracy, throws topped out at 80 mph.

KJ Bail, RHP/1B, Zionsville HS, 2019

6-foot-3, 185 pounds.  Offensively, balanced setup, wraps during the load, partial rotation with the lower half, long stride.  Average bat speed, uphill swing path, lifts the baseball.  Registered a high exit velocity of 82 mph.  Defensively showcased some arm strength across the diamond at 83 mph.  Sure handed 1B, clean exchange. Ran a 7.42 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash. 

Kiel Brenczewski, C/3B, Fishers HS, 2019

6-foot-1, 180 pounds.  Offensively, open setup, small load back, leg kick timing trigger, average lower half/partial rotation at times.  Good balance in the swing.  Above average bat speed, uphill swing path, gets to extension.  Gap to gap type power. Registered a high exit velocity of 84 mph.  Defensively at 3B showcased fluid footwork with above average hands.  Quick/clean exchange, plays through the baseball with some athleticism.  Loose high ¾ arm action with carry, throws topped out at 83 mph.  Ran a 7.56 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash. 

Ryan Brown, 3B/1B, West Vigo HS, 2019

5-foot-11, 215 pounds.  Offensively LHH, small crouch type setup, smooth load, short stride, lower half lacks involvement.  Average bat speed, short/slightly uphill swing plane, line drive approach.  Registered a high exit velocity of 84 mph.  Defensively, sure hands, fluid movement, heavy feet, plays through the baseball, clean exchange.  Throws topped out at 72 across the diamond.  

Justin Castetter, 3B/RHP, Zionsville HS, 2019

6-foot-3, 175 pounder with long limbs.  Offensively, tall setup, loads back with a wrap, short stride, partial rotation with the lower half.  Average bat speed, long swing path.  Line drive approach, late rhythm.  Registered a high exit velocity of 84 mph.  Defensively, soft hands, fluid feet, clean exchange, plays through the baseball.  Long/loose high ¾ arm action with some accuracy.  Throws topped out at 78 across the INF.  Ran a 7.77 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash. 

Greyson Droste, 1B, Hamilton Southeastern HS, 2019

6-foot-2, 205 pounds.  Offensively, wide setup, no load, short stride, lower half tends to collapse, good balance.  Above average bat speed, short/slightly uphill swing plane.  Pull side hitter, stiff rhythm.  Registered a high exit velocity of 85 mph.  Across the INF throws topped out at 76 mph. Fields the ball deep, long exchange. Ran a 7.88 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash. 

Carter Hamlin, C/3B, Homestead HS, 2020

5-foot-9, 180 pounds.  Offensively, balanced setup, hands drop during the load, leg kick timing trigger, short stride, over rotation with the lower half.  Above average bat speed, level swing plane. Registered a high exit velocity of 85 mph.  Defensively, heavy footwork, hard hands. Short-high ¾ arm action, throws topped out at 73 mph.  

Isaac Housman, RHP/1B, Evansville Reitz Memorial HS, 2019

6-foot-3, 205 pounds.  Offensively, balanced/closed setup, minimal load, short stride, partial rotation with the lower half, average balance throughout the swing.  Bat tends to drag through the zone, level swing plane, stiff rhythm.  Registered a high exit velocity of 83 mph.  Defensively, was 78 across the INF.

Adam Hutchison, 3B/C, Greenfield Central HS, 2020

Strong frame at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds.  Offensively, balanced setup, loads back, short stride (dives at times). Average lower half, maintains balance throughout the swing.  Average bat speed, short-level swing path.  Line drive hitter, fluid rhythm.  Registered a high exit velocity of 81 mph.  Defensively, short-over-the top arm action, throws topped out at 76 mph.  Average hands, fluid feet, clean exchange.  

Sam Tackett, RHP/3B, Plainfield HS, 2019

5-foot-10, 198 pounds.  Offensively, balanced setup, minimal load with a drop in the hands.  Short stride, partial rotation with the lower half, average balance throughout the swing.  Above average bat speed, short-level swing plane.  Registered a high exit velocity of 87 mph.  Defensively, short high ¾ arm action with accuracy at 79 mph.  Possesses average hands, heavy footwork, clean exchange.  Ran a 7.90 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash. 

Logan Urbaniak, RHP/3B, Carmel HS, 2019

6-foot, 195 pounds. Offensively, balanced setup, loads back with a drop in the hands, short stride from a toe tap, average balance.  Average bat speed, slightly uphill swing path, fluid rhythm.  Registered a high exit velocity of 79 mph.  Defensively, average hands, heavy footwork.  ¾ arm action with some accuracy, throws topped out at 76 mph.  Ran a 7.94 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.
