Q & A with Ball State Commit David Current (Franklin County HS)

By Chris Fuller

David Current, RHP/OF, Franklin County HS, Class of 2013

PBR: Why did you choose Ball State?

Current: I chose Ball State because I was extremely impressed with the coaching staff. Coach Maloney has a very impressive resume. He has a history of helping players reach their highest potential and that really spoke to me. I felt an immediate connection with Coach Linklater, the former pitching coach at the University of Dayton. Both coaches have sent numerous players to the next level and have tremendous feel for the game.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Current: Western Kentucky, Murray, Louisville, and Tennessee-Martin.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you play?

Current: They saw me at the Perfect Game Ohio Valley Showcase.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your freshman year?

Current: The coaches expect me and compete and contribute to the team.

PBR: What do you think your biggest strength is as a baseball player?

Current: My biggest strength is my competitive drive. Both of my brothers played D1 sports, one basketball and the other baseball, so that was always a driving force for me to work to be the best I could.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on your baseball career?

Current: My dad coached me for 9 years and has made the biggest impact on me. Also, my pitching coach, Mark Wright, who began working with me my freshman year, has had a big impact on me.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer?

Current: I play for Kentucky Baseball Club this fall and coming summer.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment?

Current: My most memorable baseball moment was during my junior year at Franklin County. I pitched a complete game against undefeated and third-ranked Bowling Green. I was 4-4 with 7 RBI's and a two-run homer.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in the state of Kentucky?

Current: Clinton Hollon from Woodford County.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you have pitched against in Kentucky?

Current: JT Riddle from Western Hills.

PBR: What are your goals for your senior season at Franklin County?

Current: My goals are to help Franklin County win the 11th region and have the best season of my high school career.
