Q & A with Kentucky Wesleyan commit Nate Stemle (St. Xavier HS)

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

Nate Stemle, SS/2B, St. Xavier HS, Class of 2013

PBR: Why did you choose Kentucky Wesleyan?

Stemle: It came down to the coaching staff and the fact that it is close enough to home that my family and friends can come watch me play. Their level of baseball is the right fit for me and Coach Lillpop could not any more genuine as a person or coach.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Stemle: Holy Cross College and Bellarmine University

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you play?

Stemle: I sent them a video and they had me come down to work out for them and watch their purple/black scrimmage.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your freshman year?

Stemle: They expect me to make an impact right away, and I plan to put in the work this winter and season and get to where I can play as a freshman.

PBR: What would you consider your biggest strength as a player?

Stemle: It is my defense by far. I am a solid hitter, but I love the defensive side of the game. I am always anxious to make a play.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on your baseball career?

Stemle: My cousin Steve Stemle, he pitched in the MLB for the Royals. Growing up and having him teach me was a huge factor in my mental side of the game.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer?

Stemle: I played ball for my schools summer ball team. It helped unite our team and we feel closer and ready for the spring season.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment?

Stemle: Winning the Regional Championship last year by far. F.O.E.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in the state of Kentucky?

Stemle: Austin Warner from Trinity High School.

PBR: What are your goals for your senior season at St. Xavier?

Stemle: It will be a failed season to me if we do not win state. My personal goal was to play college ball, so now my only goal is to do anything in my power to help us win games. My team knows what I mean when I say we need to Free Boosie.
