Q and A with 2013 Dayton Commit: Eric Ashbrook (Mount Vernon HS)

Eric Ashbrook, RHP, Mount Vernon HS, Class of 2013

PBR: Why did you choose Dayton?

Ashbrook: I really just loved everything about it. It's a great academic school with a championship caliber baseball program. There's not much more you can ask for.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Ashbrook: Michigan State, Kent State, Wright State, Cincinnati, Evansville, Toledo, and Ohio University.

PBR: You have made your commitment very early.  Why did you chose to make your decision so soon and are you finished with the recruiting process?

Ashbrook: I felt that now was the right time because it's nice to go into my senior year knowing where I'm going to school. It's definitely a weight off my shoulders. And yes, I am finished with the recruiting process.

PBR:  You recently attended PBR’s Top Prospect Showcase.  How did that help you in the recruiting process?

Ashbrook: The Top Prospect Showcase had so many schools in attendance so it was a great way to showcase your abilities. It's hard for college coaches to go and see every player with their respective teams, so it was a great event because a lot of the top talent in the state was on the field at the same time.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Ashbrook: Personally, my goals are to get stronger and improve my changeup. As a team, the goal is to win our conference and a district championship.

PBR: Where did Coach Vittorio first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Ashbrook: The coaching staff first saw me at the Top Prospect Games. I talked to Coach Talarico on the phone a few times and then went out for a visit.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?

Ashbrook: It's a surreal feeling. It's something that every young player dreams of and it makes me really appreciative of everyone that has helped me get where I am.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Ashbrook: I play for Ohio Elite (Winter). The whole summer with the Ohio Elite was a great experience. It was my first year in the program and I made a lot of great friends and played top notch competition.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Ashbrook: Zach Sterry of Lexington
