Q and A with 2014 Alderson Broaddus Commit: Mitchell Griffiths (Olentangy Liberty HS)

Mitchell Griffiths, RHP, Olentangy Liberty HS, Class of 2014

PBR: Why did you choose Alderson Broaddus?

Griffiths: It was a perfect fit for me, the location is going to give me a new experience, the campus is great, they have my intended major and I get to go into a great program with a chance to play four years.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Griffiths: Lake Erie, Ohio Dominican, Otterbein

PBR: Where did Alderson Broaddus first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?

Griffiths: A showcase over the summer and then I visited campus in October and since then I have talked to the coaches frequently. They are a young staff really energized about the program.

PBR: This summer you attended PBR’s Unsigned Senior Showcase.  How much did that help in you in the recruiting process?

Griffiths: After the games my recruiting exploded every day I was getting calls from coaches to visit and learn more about their schools. Really appreciate what PBR does!

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Griffiths: Come in and compete for innings on the bump. They believe if I come in and work hard I can see a lot of innings as a freshman.

PBR: What summer team do you play on and how has travel baseball helped your development as a player?

Griffiths: Columbus Cobras and they have helped a lot, putting us in some good tournaments last summer with good exposure to college coaches.

PBR: Your high school team returns a lot of veteran players.  What are you individual and team goals going into this spring?

Griffiths:  We are really excited for the spring. My individual goals are to help my team anywhere I can and hopefully some personal accolades come from that. But our team goals are to win the league and have a special May and make a run in the state tournament. Guys are very committed this offseason.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Griffiths:  There have been so many people. The first is my dad who is at every game and coached me while I was younger. The next would be my high school coaches Coach Brenning and Coach Schmidt who really love what they do and have been with me since my sophomore year and helped every step of the way.

PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at Olentangy Liberty?

Griffiths: 4-2. 3 saves 39IP 3.95 ERA. 33 K

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Griffiths: Evan White of Gahanna or my spring teammate and good friend Cam Comer.
