Q and A with Northern Kentucky Commit David Mauerer (LHP/Westlake)

PBR: Why did you choose Northern Kentucky?
Mauerer: Because of the tradition at NKU, coaching staff. And that they are going D1 next year. 

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Mauerer: Eastern Kentucky and Flagler  

PBR: Where did NKU first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Mauerer: They saw me throw over the summer. My relationship with Coach Asalon and Coach Peyton became very close during the recruiting process. 

PBR: Did NKU’s switch to Division 1 athletics help decide your decision?
Mauerer: Yes, that played a huge role in it!  The Atlantic Sun Conference is a great baseball conference top 10 in nation. 

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus? 
Mauerer: Coach Asalon and Coach Peyton believe I can come in and pitch right away. 

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help NKU?
Mauerer: I believe my biggest strength is my competitiveness I hate losing. And help bring good team chemistry     

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Mauerer: T3 Pelicans Coach by Neall French and Frank Russo. Making it to the championship game in the CABA World Series. We were the first time from Ohio to make it that far in 10 some years. 

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?
Mauerer: My goal this year is to just win every game that I take the mound on. And team goal is to win a State Championship! 

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?
Mauerer: Avery Romero (Florida commit)
