Q and A with Vincennes Commit R.J. Smith

Ronal J. Smith Jr. (RJ) is a 6-foot-2 inch, 170 pound pitcher from Hamilton HS.  We recently asked R.J. a few questions regarding his commitment to Vincennes:

PBR: Why did you choose Vincennes?

Smith:  I chose Vincennes because it was a small atmosphere, where I felt like I would fit in. It had many different things that my parents and I liked when we visited. They have the major I want to pursue and a good baseball program.

PBR: Where did Vincennes first see you compete?

Smith:  Coach Anderson first saw me in the fall when I played in the Wabash Valley Showcase.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Smith:  They expect me to come in and do what I’m capable of doing and to play my hardest.  They expect me to succeed in school and to improve my game.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help Vincennes?

Smith:  I think my biggest strength is pitching, because that's all I want to do. I think it will help me in the future with the dedication that I will put into it.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Smith:  My HS coach, Coach Wolfe, always knew what I was capable of doing on the mound.  He expects me to be a leader going into my senior year, and believes in me.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience?

Smith:  This past year I played for Coach Duprez of the Fort Wayne Franchise.  My most exciting experience was going to Louisville to play.  The atmosphere was bigger and was a place I’d never played before.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Indiana?

Smith:  A kid named Siddons from Churubusco High school.  He dominated on the mound that day, just like I did.

PBR: What are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Smith:  My goal is to have better stats and to come out on top as one of the area’s best pitchers. I want this season to help prepare me for when I play at Vincennes. For the team I would like to improve our team record as well as being a leader and helping others when needed. I hope to get a Sectional win.
