Prep Baseball Report

Q&A with Underclass Invitational Participant John Krysa

By Jeff Markle
Assistant State Director

Prep Baseball Report Colorado is ready to hit the ground running in 2015 with two major events.  With the Underclass Invitational at Slammers South just two weeks away, limited spots are still available for this event. Over the next two weeks, PBR Colorado will continue to introduce you to 2017 and 2018 players who have committed to this event.  Continuing our second round look at registered players is John Krysa 5-foot-11, 160-pound, OF, 2017 from Mountain Vista High School.

PBR:  Describe yourself as a baseball player to those who have never seen you play:

Krysa:  I try to use my speed both offensively and defensively.  Also, I consider myself a very hard-working student athlete.  I try to work just as hard on the field as I do in the classroom.

PBR:  What would be your dream school to play baseball at?

Krysa:  My dream school would be any Division 1 school with solid academics.  I would enjoy going to a school where everyone has the same work ethic, and working hard is encouraged.

PBR:  What are your best assets on and off the field at this point in your high school career?

Krysa:  I would have to say my biggest asset on the field is my speed, which I utilize when stealing bases or tracking down fly balls.  I am also a very cerebral player, and this trait definitely helps me on and off the field.  Also, I try to be a great teammate.

PBR:  What does your off-season preparation look like this year compared to your freshman year?

Krysa:  During my freshman year I played football along with baseball.  This meant that I was not able to make many of the 6 a.m. workouts that Mountain Vista Baseball holds during the fall season.  This year, I decided to take a break from football and I was able to attend the 6 a.m. workouts on a regular basis.  Along with all of the weight training this fall and early winter, I did some speed training.  I also threw and hit this offseason a lot more than my freshman year.

PBR:  What is the best baseball advice you have received and try to follow to this point in your career?

Krysa:  I try to play relaxed but focused and to try to have quality at bats.

PBR:  What are your superstitions or routines that go on during a season?

Krysa:  I do not have any superstitions.

PBR:  What are your goals for:

This Season:  This season I would like to start in center field for the varsity team, and bat leadoff.

Two Years:  I would like to be a senior captain on my team.  My goal is to have won a state championship by this time, and also to be committed to play baseball at a Division 1 school.

Four Years:  In four years I want to be striving to be successful in college in both academics and on the field.
