RHP Kevin Robertson Helps Lead Muncie Central to a Win

Muncie, IN – Delta took on Muncie Central on Monday evening in a game that featured 30 plus mph winds. Senior RHP Kevin Robertson took the mound for Muncie Central while freshman LHP Trey Bland got the start for Delta.  Both pitchers held the opposing team scoreless through four innings. Robertson worked out of jams the entire game showing his ability to pitch under pressure. Bland did not allow a hit through four innings and gave up just two walks.

In the fifth the offense arrived for both teams. Bland walked the leadoff hitter, Robertson, and was replaced by Tavis Rattray (2014). After a sacrifice bunt and a pop out,  Rattray looked like he would be getting out of the inning unscathed, but Brannon Muncey (2013) had a different idea  as he doubled to left field bringing home Robertson for the first run of the game. Leadoff hitter Billy Walker (2014) then stepped up and hit a ball hard to right center for a RBI triple. Blake Bullock (2013) followed that with a singled to center bringing home Walker and putting Muncie Central up 3-0.

Delta got one back in the bottom of the fifth after Taran Temple (2012) singled up the middle with two outs. Austin Conway (2013) came up next and doubled to right field scoring Temple, the only run Robertson would allow.

Robertson struggled at the beginning of the game with the control of his breaking ball, however settled in as the game went on throwing it more consistently for a strike. He showed the ability to field his position well, making several plays on the mound.  In the seventh Delta had their 2-3-4 hitters come up to the plate.  After getting the first batter to groundout, an error allowed a runner on for Delta.  The error, however, would not bother Robertson as he got back to back ground ball outs to end the game.

Final – Muncie Central 3 Delta 1
