SCHSL 3A Rankings - Week 1

Eddie Tisdale
Scouting Director - South Carolina

1. Bishop England (3-3)
Last Week - 1

- A 2-2 start to the season at the IP Classic was not what the Bishops were hoping for, but they can take some refuge in knowing that their 6 opponents of 2019 have all been of the 5A variety. With Old Dominion recruit Chris Dengler and Clemson recruit Geoffrey Gilbert rounding into form, this teams arrow will be pointing up when region play starts.

2. Mid Carolina (5-0)
Last Week - 8

- The Rebels are off to a 5-0 start and have picked up wins over 5A opponents Greenwood, Spring Valley, and Chapin. USC Union recruit Bryce Medlock and uncommitted 2020 Zach Frick will try to keep Mid Carolina rolling into region play as they take on Emerald and Clinton this week.

3. Hanahan (6-1)
Last Week - 7

- Hanahan is off to a strong start, winning 6 of their first 7 games. They will take on a tough region 7 opponent this week in Georgetown. The Hawks have only allowed 16 runs in 7 games and Florence-Darlington Tech recruit Charlie Mac Toman is 6 for his last 9 with 3 runs, 5 RBIs, 2 2Bs, and a HR adding 7.0 IP and 10Ks in a complete game win over Academic Magnet last week.

4. Gilbert (4-1)
Last Week - 4

- The Indians started the year off with a 2-1 record in the Sandlapper Shootout and picked up two quality wins last week over 4A opponents Airport and Richland Northeast. Uncommitted 2021 Wells Sykes has been on a tear early for this group and will look to continue the hot start this week.

5. Strom Thurmond (4-3)
Last Week - 2

- Strom Thurmond dropped their last two games of the Peach Ridge Invitational to finish the event at 2-2. After a 6-5 loss to Emerald early in the week the Rebels responded with a DH sweep of Waccamaw and Aynor. Uncommitted 2021 Caleb Jones and uncommitted 2020 Rhett Jolly will look to keep ST rolling after back to back wins on Saturday.

6. Powdersville (3-2)
Last Week - 6

- Splitting a series with Wren is a good way to build on a strong preseason that saw the Patriots go 2-1 in the Dogs Invitational. Brown University recruit Bobby Olsen has been electric on the mound so far and will look to continue his hot start when the Patriots take on Crescent in the region opener this week.

7. Chapman (4-0)
Last Week - NR

- Wins over Gaffney and Northwestern to start the season have given the Panthers some much needed momentum going into conference play. They have scored 21 runs in their last two games and will look to continue the trend against Southside this week.

8. Waccamaw (4-2)
Last Week - 10

- The Warriors have pounded out 16 hits in their last two games and have some good momentum going into a tough region 7 slate. Citadel recruit Luke Montenery is 5 for his last 8 with 3 runs and an RBI.

9. Cheraw (3-3)
Last Week - NR

- The Braves are off to a 3-3 start, and after grabbing a quality win over Wando in the CIT they have proven they can play at a high level. They take on Camden Military in a DH before they square off with Marion and Dillon to end the week.

10. May River (2-3)
Last Week - 5

- Florence-Darlington Tech recruit Josh Patterson turned in a solid start against Hilton Head and uncommitted 2021 Cooper George picked up two hits to try and get a talented Sharks team back on track.

NEXT FIVE: Pendleton, Camden, Aynor, Chesnee, Pelion
