Matthew Sapienza RHP / 3B / Phillips Academy Andover, MA / 2021Rankings StateRank: 25 / POS: 9
“Since my freshman year at a new school, seeing all the seniors and juniors getting looks, that was when I knew I wanted to play Division I baseball,” reflected the 25th-ranked 2021 in New England. “It was in the back of my mind for awhile, but I never thought about it like I do today.” The 6-1 185-pounder has done his part in making the dream of playing at the next level come true. “I’m definitely stronger than I’ve ever been,” Sapienza noted. “That’s helping me out a lot. I’ve been on a strict workout plan that will help in the upcoming season. I’ve also been paying more attention to detail.” Interest in the ninth-rated junior right-handed pitcher in New England has picked up since summer. “I went to a few camps, my high school coach has contacted schools and done videos and I went to the Future Games,” Sapienza said in reference to where exposure came for him. “I had a great time there. I pitched two innings at the Future Games. It was a fun experience playing with so many good players.” It did not take long for Sapienza to see if anyone liked how he performed. “Right when I got home Penn, Columbia and Elon had texts to me,” Sapienza related. “That really is a good feeling.” A visit to Dartmouth and a camp at Georgetown have been recent contacts Sapienza has made with colleges, although a storm cancelled planned trips to Penn and UConn. |
