Schalmont 5,  Plattsburgh 2

Schalmont survived and advances to play Saturday at Ballston Spa HS. They will play Ogdensburg Free Academy after Schalmont defeated Plattsburgh today by a score of 5-2.

Schalmont was led by LHP Chris Hamilton, the senior is headed to Stony Brook next season. Hamilton threw a CG with eight strike-outs and one-earned run. He sat mid 80's with a spike breaking ball, and shows a feel for the changeup. His command was below average on the day, but he battled and showed some grit throughout the game. At the plate, he helped his cause smoking a double, single and 2 IBB. 2017 OF Jake Dafayette, added a big triple to help tie the score at two all, then infielder Matt Rash, added a big two-run double to separate the teams.

Plattsburg has a good looking baseball club. Their leadoff hitter and pitcher, Andrew Bechard, 2017,  singled to start the game and also stole second. He showed the ability to handle the bat and can really run from the left side. Their three-hole hitter, Ben Champagne, 2017, can really handle the bat. Showed a flat swing, with a solid approach, staying inside the ball with quick hands. He singled and doubled during the game, driving in both runs. He also showed solid tools defensively.  2018 Izaiah Browne, was hit by a pitch in the game, while also showing good life with the bat. 2017 OF Brady Pennington, showed solid tools across the board. 2016 SS Alex Follmer, has a flashy glove with clean, quick hands and a sure glove. Look for Plattsburgh to make another run in 2017 as their key players are all juniors.
