Diamondskills baseball hosted a round robin tournament last weekend (June 14-16) that saw six teams come to the campus of George Mason. API Baseball, NOVA Premier, RBA South, Diamond Elite, and the Virginia Cardinals were also included in the tournament.  After compiling notes and scout blogs, we have put them all together for you here.

Videos from the weekend are currently being edited and will be included in this story and updated in the near future.

NOVA PREMIER

Ian Smith RHP Briar Woods 2020
Shorter arm action throwing from an almost over the top slot. Fastball has slight run on the pitch at 75-77 mph topping out at 78. Breaking ball had 11/5 shape with gradual break at 68-70 mph.

Brandon Kim IF Bishop O'Connell 2020
Athletic arm action throwing from a three quarter slot. Fastball ran 79-81 mph. Balanced athletic set up at the plate. Short swing with average bat speed, quick hands thru zone. Gap to gap type hitter. Like the skill set.

Michael Welliver 1B/LHP Centreville 2020
Lefthander with free arm action throwing from a lower slot. Fastball was 70-72 mph. Hits from a taller set up at the plate. Foot pick up load with kick out. Hands are free at the plate. With average bat speed. Some potential with hands at the plate, needs to add to frame.

Phaly Moravek SS/2B Tuscarora 2020
Athletic actions in the field. Confident and quick first step. Smooth and clean, throws had average carry across the diamond. Switch hitter at the plate, shows more pop from the right side, more gap to gap from the left. Gap to gap approach from left side with more pull tendencies right handed. Nice day in game 1 on Friday.

Lahe Calvo OF Centreville 2020
Smaller athletic build. Athletic actions with some quick twitch. Moves well in the outfield and quick out of the box. Short swing, quick hands thru the zone with average bat speed. Middle approach. Interesting young talent.

 

Colin Troilo IF Heritage (Leesburg) 2020
Hits from an athletic set up at the plate. Aggressive swing with some bat speed. Again showed good feel for barrel. Got out of balance at times in game, but showed some nice ability at the plate and potential.

Brian Sanders IF 2020 Westfield
Athletic projectable frame. Hits from a square set up at the plate. Has a short swing in game with uphill finish. More weight transfer in swing with lot of backside involvement from back to front foot at finish. Nice bat speed and swung the bat well on the day.

Justin Ritz C Westfield 2020
Tall, athletic frame with some strength present and room to grow. Hits from a taller athletic set up at the plate. Has a shorter, level path at the plate and showed some extension thru contact. Back foot inconsistent and could show some more pop if could get it involved more consistently. Solid receiver behind the plate, sticks ball well and shows and nice quick transfer and ball carry on throws

Bennett Cook OF Justice 2020
Athletic frame with strength present. Showed pop to pull side throughout weekend. Athletic set up with attacking swing to fastballs. Rock back load to hitting position with slightly uphill bat path. Shows some strength at the plate and potential. Interesting as the weekend progressed.

Dylan Weber LHP 2019 Dominion (Christopher Newport)
Good to see the talented lefty throw again. Continued to show nice command of the strike zone for his age and also showed improved velocity. Fastball ran 83-86 and was firm in his outing. Breaking ball was bigger yet hard at 72-75 mph.

Thomas Joseph OF/1B 2021 Archbishop Spalding
Strong, Athletic set up at the plate. High hands. Rock back load to hitting position. Shortswing with bat speed. Good feel for the barrel getting on the baseball. Pop at plate and drives ball well to all fields. Power potential is there and more to come.

James Wood OF 2021 St. John's
Raw athleticism and explosion. Long lanky frame with more in the tank. Shows explosion at the plate with some quick twitch. Flashes of special ability. Arm shows carry in the outfield. Shows pop at the plate to pull side. Very interesting and intriguing player in the 2021 class.

Sam Merchant C Arundel 2020
Smaller compact frame. Hits from balanced, athletic set up. Level path at the plate with quick hands. Gap to gap type hitter. Works behind dish. Excellent hip and moves around well on balls in dirt. Quiet receiver.

Eddie Sargent LHP/OF Spalding.
Athletic frame with some more growing to do. Build up delivery with high leg kick. Clean arm action throwing from a high three quarter slot. Fastball ranged 77-79 mph. breaking ball was 64-67 mph with 1/7 shape and tight. Pitches with regular effort. More in tank.

Noah Mrotek RHP 2021 (Maryland)
Physical, durable frame. Compact delivery with good tempo. High leg kick. Slight cross body. Throws from high three quarter slot, was 87-90 in the first, touched 91 twice. Dropped to 84-87 in the second. Breaking ball shows good shape and potential to be a plus pitch. 11/5 shape and good action. Ranged from 74-77 in first, 71-74 in second. More in tank. Will continue to get better as repeatability improves. High level prospect.

Caleb Estes SS/RHP Spalding 2022 (Maryland)
Lanky projectable frame. Fluid actions in the field, plays the game smooth. Quick and confident first step. Will stay at short. Chance to be a premium defender. Throws show carry across the diamond. At the plate has level swing with bat speed. Gap to gap approach with advanced feel for barrel at young age. Chance to be a special player.

Ben Wieman IF Spalding 2021
Athletic infield prospect. Nice quick twitch at the plate with quick hands. Smooth load to hitting position, short swing and bat speed. Offensive upside as he adds to his frame. Moves well at the corner, clean hands and gets rid of the ball quickly.

Luke Schauer LHP St. John's 2020 (Virginia)
Controlled build up delivery. Deceptive cross body lower half. Throws from an over the top slot. Fastball was 83-85 with some sink on the pitch, topped out at 86. Big breaking ball with big shape and tight action. Bottoms out and ranged from 69-72 mph. good feel for strikezone and showed command of fastball and breaking ball locting to both sides of the plate.

DM Jefferson OF St. John's 2021
Physical athletic frame. Athletic, balanced set up at the plate. Short swing at the plate, shows quick hands at bat speed. Confident and quick first step, runs well out of box and on field in general. Interesting.

Ethan Mishra RHP St. John's 2021
Physical durable frame at 6-3, 195. Build up style delivery. Sound long arm action throwing from a high three quarter slot. Fastball ranged from 81-84 mph and touched 86. Breaking ball had gradual break that shows potential. Ranged from 66-72 mph with 11/5 shape. One to follow, more in the tank.

Quinn Allen 3B/1B/RHP St. John's 2021
Strong physical frame. Hits from the left side with athletic set up. Short quick load to pre position, quick hands with short swing at the plate. Pulls off ball at times. Creates nice bat speed from left side. Nice balance throughout swing. One the mound, has a quick compact delivery. Aggressive nature on the mound attacking the zone. Throws from an over the top slot with sound arm action. Fastball had slight run on the pitch that ranged 83-84 most of his outing topping out at 85 on occasion throughout game. Breaking ball had 11/5 shape tight spin and some depth. Pitched showed potential at 70-72 mph.

Jason Schaivone IF/C St. John's 2021
Athletic projectable frame. Fluid actions and moves well in the infield. Nice hands and athleticism. Short swing at the plate with some bat speed, would like to see better extension through contact to keep his barrel in zone longer. Foundation is there and athleticism shows a lot to like. Versatile athlete, can play multiple positions. God behind the dish low, wide base, sticks well. Very fast catch and throw on pops.

Hunter DiCello OF St. John's 2020
Compact frame. Quick twitch and plays with a bit of an edge. Shorter swing path with uphill finish. Aggressive swing at the plate. Runs well and covers ground in the outfield. Showed speed on bases, aggressive there as well. Ran a 4.21 on base hit drag bunt.

Xan Wojie RHP St. John's 2020
Athletic frame at 6-foot, 170-pounds. Throws from a lower three quarter slot with clean arm action. Fastball shows late run and sink to the pitch that ranged from 82-85 mph. Breaking ball is a good pitch and shows potential with 11/5 shape that ranged at 64-67 mph.

Justin Reimer MIF St. John's 2020
Projectable athletic frame with room to add to at 5-11, 150. Fluid actions at short with nice quickness and confident first step. Quick, soft hands defensively and can get rid of the baseball with ability to throw from multiple angles comfortably. Throws have carry across the diamond. At the plate, hits from a slightly open set up from the left side. Short swing with nice bat control. Has the foundation of an impressive skill set. When he can add to the frame, looks like could be an impressive middle infielder.

Dylan Winebrenner C 2020 St. John's
Athletic, strong frame with room to grow. Hits from a taller, balanced set up. Hands are direct to the ball with some bat speed. Gap to gap type hitter who can spray it around the diamond. Looks like could create some power down the road. Very good behind the dish. Quiet receiver soft but strong. Average runner.

Brandon Hurt IF 2020 Georgetown Prep (MD)
Athletic set up at the plate. Projectable frame with room to add to. Short swing at the plate, simple load, fluid throughout. Shows some extension through contact. Barreled up some balls real well on day two showing a middle approach. Sound actions in the infield, gets rid of the ball well with clean hands.

Ian Babey RHP South Lakes 2021
Long lanky projectable frame. Stretch only delivery. Deliberate, average leg kick keeping balance. Loose arm action throwing from a high three quarter slot. Fastball showed slight run on the pitch that ranged from 79-80 mph. breaking ball had 11/5 shape with gradual break that ran 60-62 mph.

Ashton Grimes RHP Stonebridge 2020
Lanky frame with room to grow. High leg kick with deliberate delivery. Throws from lower three quarter slot with some natural arm side run. Fastball ranged from 73-75 mph. Breaking ball had gradual 11/5 shape that ranged from 60-63 mph. Balanced set up at plate. Drops hands in load to arm bar. Uphill path with average bat speed.

Ryan Provincial MIF Stonebridge 2020
Lanky frame with room to add to. Hands were free at the plate with average bat speed that should get better with strength. Double tap type load with leg lift. Got out of balance at times. Uphill finish on swing. Potential at the plate.

Mitch Gillen IF/P Loundoun Co. 2020
Athletic frame with some strength. Sound arm action throwing from a high three quarter slot. Some projection on the mound, fastball ran 79-81, with quick arm circle. Breaking ball was 72-74 on the day with 11/5 action and later break that showed some potential. Offensively hits from an athletic set up. Level Swing path with average bat speed.

Mickey Haynes IF/OF Brentsville 2021
Athletic projectable frame. Nice rhythm at the plate. Hits from a taller set up with high hands. Medium leg kick load to slight arm bar. Level path at the plate with some bat speed. Versatile athlete, can play multiple positions. Be interesting to monitor development. On the mound, athletic arm action throwing from a high three quarter slot. Fastball ranged from 76-80 mph.

Nolan Levenhagen OF/RHP Potomac Falls 2021
Athletic frame. Throws from a high three-quarter slot with sound arm action. Fastball ranged from 76-78 mph with 64 mph BB.

Alex Gulino C/1B Georgetown Day 2021
Imposing frame. Hits from balanced set up at plate. Simple load with short swing, hands direct. Shows some bat speed and power potential to the pull side. Showed feel for the barrel with a pull approach.

Aaron Lautenschalger MIF Loudoun Valley 2021
Proejectable athletic frame with room to grow. Nice actions from the middle with clean hands. Hits from an athletic set up at the plate. Level path with uphill finish. Average bat speed. Solid foundation, will be interesting to see how he develops.

Thomas Haller LHP Woodgrove 2020
Projectable lanky frame. Controled delivery with some tempo. Loose arm action with average arm speed. Could get some more backside involvement. Throws from a three-quarter slot. Fastball had slight run to the pitch that ranged 75-77 mph. Breaking ball had 1/7 shape on the pitch that ranged 66-68 mph. Showed feel for change up at 70-71

Jordon JoJo Banks OF 2021
Projectable lanky athletic frame. Hits from a balanced set up at the plate with a short swing and quick hands. Room for strength there. There is a lot of potential and projection to the plate. Moves well in the field, should stay in centerfield as he has a quick and confident first step and can cover some ground.

Hunter Zaun RHP/1B 2021
Strong frame. Controlled compact delivery throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Fastball showed some run to the pitch that ranged from 74-76 mph. Breaking ball ranged from 62-64 mph with 11/5 shape and gradual break.

Roman Borders RHP 2021
Lanky projectable frame. Deliberate delivery throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Long sound arm action with average lower half involvement. Pitches with regular effort. More in the tank. Fastball showed slight run to the pitch that ranged from 75-77 mph. Breaking ball had a­ bigger, 11/5 shape on the pitch that ranged from 60-63.

Dean Runyon RHP Thomas Dale 2021
Projectable athletic frame. Long free arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Fastball showed some run on the pitch that ranged from 77-79 mph on the day. Breaking ball has some shape and potential that ranged from 66-69 mph.

Joseph Garner RHP 2021
Lanky frame. Bigger side step delivery. High leg kick, average lower half usage in delivery. Free arm action. Fastball showed slight cut to the pitch up to 78 mph. Breaking ball had gradual 12/6 shape on the pitch up to 69 mph.

Cole Marshall RHP 2021
Loose, arm action throwing from a three quarter slot. Temp in delivery with nice pacing. Showed a fastball that ranged from 77-80 mph on the day that was straight. Room there for more, some repeatability consistency will help.

Virginia Cardinals 2021

Brett Allen IF/RHP Benedictine 2021
Athletic projectable frame with some length. Compact controlled delivery. Clean loose arm action throwing from a three-quarter slot. Pitches with regular effort. Fastball had run to the pitch that ranged 84-87 mph. Breaking ball had shorter, 11/5 shape on the pitch that ranged 73-75 mph. Threw a very good changeup with fastball arm speed at 76-77 mph. Hits from a taller set up at the plate. Hands work well with bat speed and uphill finish. Like his rhythm at plate. Power potential is there and has a chance. Very interesting and potential two-way prospect.

Jay Woolfolk RHP/OF Benedictine 2021
Great to see the top player in the VA/DC 2021 class again. Woolfolk just continues to impress on the diamond. Strong physical athletic frame. Stretch only. Shorter leg kick with some corkscrew in lift. Free clean arm action throwing from a three quarter slot. Ball explodes out of hand. Fastball ranged 88-90 on the day, pitch had hard and late run and sink to the pitch. Showed ranged of 74-77 on breaking ball and a plus change up at 80-82 mph with pull. The feel for three pitches is impressive. At the plate hits from an athletic set up. Later stride out in load with attaching, aggressive approach. Showed good feel for the strike zone and did not chase. Explosiveness in swing is impressive. Ball jumps off bat and raw strength.

Tanner Clements C Matoaca 2021
Strong physical frame. Hits from a athletic set up. Hands are direct to ball with uphill finish. Creates fast bat speed. Strength is present. Showed nice balance offensively and barreled up the ball well. Bat and power potential. Could move to 1B or maybe corner outfield when not catching, but the bat plays.

Drue Hackenberg RHP/IF Miller 2021
Strong, durable pitchers frame. Compact delivery with a shorter, sound arm action. Nice tempo in delivery. Throws from a three-quarter slot while pitching with regular effort. Arm works well, fastball showed later life that ranged 85-87 mph. Breaking ball was tight with 115/ shape. Ranged 71-74 on the day liked the pitch and should only get better.

Jalen Strattman LHP Lee-Davis 2021
Strong frame. Sound arm action throwing with some effort from an over the top slot. More in the tank, strong lower half. Fastball ranged from 80-82 mph on the day. Breaking ball ranged from 69-72 and change ranged 70-72.

Carter Lovasz RHP/SS Midlothian 2021
Projectable lanky frame with some length. Ahtletic body that moves well defensively from the infield. Hands are clean and smooth actions in the field. Showed nice body control and ability to throw from multiple angles. Level swing at plate from a balanced set up. On the mound has a loose and free arm action with some elbow lift. Creates quick arm speed pitching with light effort. Fastball ranged from 81-83 mph topping out at 84. Breaking ball showed potential with 11/5 shape and some depth to the pitch at 67-69. Showed some nice feel for change at 73-75 mph with fade.

Corey Adams MIF Clover Hill 2021
Athletic frame. Versatile athletic middle of the field guy. Short slappy swing at the plate with average bat speed. Athletic, runs well. The foundation is there and the potential should make for an interesting player in the 21 class.

Johnny Oates C/UT Thomas Dale 2021
Lean frame with room for strength. Hits from an athletic set up at the plate. Level path with uphill finish and nice rhythm. Shows some power potential. Athletic backstop with soft hands and nice receiving skills. Gets rid of it quickly.
