Eddie Tisdale
Scouting Director - South Carolina

On Sunday the Carolina Combat hosted a statistical workout for current players and prospects looking to join their organization. The workout took place on the beautiful campus of Westwood High School in Blythewood, South Carolina. Prep Baseball Report was on hand to cover the event and we are looking forward to seeing more of the Combat during the fall season. Here are some top prospects from the days event.

  • Daniel Cosola (LHP, Dutch Fork, 2020) - The 5’10” 150 lb LHP impressed during his bullpen session with long limbs and a loose arm action. He consistently worked his FBs in the 75-76 mph range showing a max FB of 77 with arm side life. Breaking Balls were landing for strikes in the 65-67 mph range with 2/8 shape. Showed the ability to feel a CH as a third pitch at 71.

  • Marion Johnson (RHP/1B, Manning, 2019) - Physical presence at 6’4” 260 lb with proportional lower and upper halves. Mix of strength and athleticism for his size will improve with future player development.  Recorded 7.87 60 time and 93 mph exit velocity. Landed slightly open on the mound with occasional disconnect between upper and lower halves. OT arm slot produced FB velocity of 82-84 T85. CH present as a 2nd pitch 67-69 with good arm action/speed and sinking action at the plate. Shallow breaking ball was throw firm with late cut at the plate, 66 mph.

  • Edwin Olmeda (OF, Westwood, 2020) - Athletic frame with long limbs and good hand size. Event best 6.87 60. Balanced stance and strong lower half suggest gap to gap power as he matures, recorded 89 exit velo. Possesses a well rounded combination of speed, power, and arm strength at present. Future player development will be worth following.

  • AJ Tolbert (RHP/1B, Orangeburg Prep, 2021) - Intriguing young prospect with projectable frame. Performed as well as any of the younger players at the event. 7.28 60 and 83 mph exit velo. Body type and physical size profile him as a 1B or corner outfielder. Showed control of the fastball on the mound working the lower half of the zone at 72-74 and T75. Arm action was consistent between FB and CB, depth was present at 62-64.

  • Patrick Boyle (C, Cardinal Newman, 2021) - Thick/strong frame with room for future physical development. Received the ball well behind the plate out of a low crouch and displayed consistent clean exchanges on throws to 2nd base. 2.05 best pop time with a 2.05 - 2.39 range. Positional velocity 76 mph will increase with maturity. Recorded exit velo of 80 mph off of a tee.
