Prep Baseball Report VA/DC hosted its first youth tournament last weekend, the September Shootout hosted by Gainesville Haymarket Baseball League. The tournament was played at Catharpin Park, Long Park, Osbourn Park High School and Patriot High School in Northern Virginia and featured over 45 teams in age groups ranging from 10U to 15U. Here is a quick recap of what was a very well-played event.

+15U
Stars Baseball Red won the 15U Gold Bracket after earning the age group’s top seed with a dominant Saturday performance that saw them outscore their opponents 33-1. Stars Red then won a back and forth championship game, 7-6, with a late rally to beat Stars Baseball Blue. The Hitmen 2019 rallied on Sunday to win the 15U Silver Bracket championship.

+14U
Saturday play was dominated by Stars Baseball, the Virginia Bulls, and Virginia Stars Red as all three teams won both of their games and posted run differentials of more than 16, setting up an outstanding Sunday in the Gold Division. The Virginia Bulls won the 14U Division with a narrow victory over Stars Baseball, 6-5. In the Silver Division, Diamond Elite had a good Sunday to capture the crown.

+13U
The Virginia Stars Red captured the 13U crown, winning its Saturday games 17-1 and 11-0. The Virginia Stars Red then won two tight games over Virginia Stars Blue (5-3) and Stars Baseball Red (7-6) to capture the Championship on Sunday.

+12U
Stars Baseball 12U, the South County Stallions, and the Loudoun South Eagles-Black all went 2-0 on Saturday to advance to the Gold Division on Sunday along with the Virginia Stars. The South County Stallions claimed Sunday’s championship with a pair of three-run victories over the Loudoun South Eagles-Black (7-4) and the Virginia Stars (9-6). The NoVa Longhorns bats came alive on Sunday as they scored 25 runs en route to the Silver Division Championship.

+11U
The Virginia Stars program dominated Saturday 11U play as four of their teams won both of their games, setting up an all-Virginia Stars Gold Division bracket on Sunday. Sunday’s semifinals were both outstanding as the Virginia Stars White advanced to the finals with a late rally that saw them overcome a 6-1 last-inning deficit. The Virginia Stars Red also survived a tight semifinal that went into extra innings to advance to the Championship game. The Virginia Stars Red captured the 11U Gold Division Championship with 8-3 victory over the Virginia Stars White. In the Silver Division, Stars Baseball’s came alive as they cruised to the Championship.

+10U
The Virginia Cannons earned the top seed for Sunday as the only team in the age group to go undefeated on Saturday. The Cannons reached the Championship game before falling to the Virginia Stars, who claimed the 10U September Shootout Championship.

Thank you to all teams, players, umpires, and parents for participating in what was a wonderful, competitive event. We look forward to seeing many of you again in a few weeks at the PBR Columbus Day Classic, which will be hosted by Gainesville Haymarket Baseball League.
