South Caldwell- 12  Hickory- 8

South Caldwell visited Hickory High for a Northwestern 3A/4A conference matchup with both teams looking to bounce back from recent losses in league play.

South jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st when Eli Webb homered over the wall in left. After the first Hickory starter Freshman Matthew Lefevers would settle in and put up zeros over the next 3 innings.

Hickory would strike in the bottom of the 3rd when Luke Davis reached on a hit by pitch, Isaiah McDowell followed with a double to right field to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Hickory would then score 3 runs on wild pitches to take a 3-2 lead.

South would tie the game in the game in the 5th but Hickory would quickly answer in the bottom half of the inning scoring 5 runs highlighted by a Boone Herman grand slam to give Hickory an 8-3 lead. South would get one run back in the 6th on a Mason Resing homerun.

Hickory would go to their bullpen for the 7th after getting a quality start from Lefevers and leading 8-4. Josh Adams reached on an infield single to start the inning followed by 4 straight walks to cut the lead to 8-6. South would score another run on a Gavin Batlow infield hit. With the score at 8-7 and the bases loaded with no outs Mason Resing lined a ball to center scoring two runs to give South the lead for good. The Spartans would end up scoring 8 runs in the 7th for an important come from behind win.
