Stanford Opportunity Brings Excitement To Campbell
Saborn Campbell OF / 2B / Detroit Country Day, MI / 2021BLOOMFIELD HILLS - Go west young man is a phrase popularized in the 1800s during America’s expansion in that direction. It is exactly what Saborn Campbell will be doing after making a commitment to Stanford. “I know a lot of people are surprised and excited for me,” noted the Detroit Country Day sophomore about becoming a Cardinal. “It’s pretty much an Ivy League school with great academics.” The soon-to-be 16-year-old admits to little knowledge of colleges in that area. “It’s the only school out west I knew much of along with UCLA,” Campbell said of Stanford. “But everyone knows about them here in Michigan. They’re rated in every big sport - swimming, baseball, football.” The chance to play for such a prestigious university came quickly for the third-ranked player in Michigan’s 2021 class. “I didn’t know it, but they saw me at a Perfect Games event,” the 6-0 175-pounder said. “They followed me to the Future Games and called my travel coach. Then I called their recruiting coach and went on a visit. They liked me a lot and they offered. I committed the next day.” There was a lot to like at Stanford for Campbell. |
