On a windy Friday afternoon in Botetourt County, the Staunton River Golden Eagles posted their tenth victory of the 2018 season, besting the home town Cavaliers 9-6. Oddly, Botetourt's lineup produced sixteen hits today, while Staunton River won the game with just six hits.

Lefty Patrick Keplar got the start for the Cavs and Eddie Blake was on the mound for the Staunton River. Both starters cruised through the first inning, however, the second frame was unkind to the home folks.

Struggling with the strike zone in the first, Keplar escaped the first inning, fanning two. In the second frame, the Junior walked Josh Thomas, Collin Bates, and Turner Crouch loading the bases. Lead-off man Matt Marrs, walked as well and scored Thomas with the fourth walk of the inning. Catcher Nick Funk's clutch two out single scored Crouch and March, supplying a three-run advantage for the Golden Eagles early on.

The Cav's Hunter Duke opened the third inning with a single to right field, followed by a Caleb Franklin one out single. Shortstop Drew Bond ripped a two out single left field, scoring Duke, and the Cav's were on the board.

Golden Eagles Leftfielder Aiden Brown and Centerfielder Turner Crouch, singled in the top of the fourth, setting the table for the top of the lineup. RBI's by Matt Marrs and Logan Ball, and a wild pitch brought three more runs for visitors.

In the bottom of the frame the Cav's would fight back. Logan Wood singled and Mayo Meade crushed a double off the center field wall to start the rally. Rock Thomas's two run double scored both base runners, and Duke singled in Thomas.

In the fifth, Golden Eagle's decided to pull away from the Cav's. It was Brown and Crouch setting the table with back to back singles, a single by Funk, and two RBI's by Logan Ball.
