The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

Team Outlook:

The Cougars had a strong season last year going 25-16 while making a 3A state tournament appearance. They spent most of the year battling it out with 3A runner up Covington and it’s shaping to be another battle in 2023. They will have the luxury of pitching depth with ‘23 RHP Owen Geiger (Navy Commit) and the district regular season MVP ‘23 LHP Chase Spears. The pair combined to go 10-3 with three saves and 117 strikeouts in 97 innings pitched. ‘24 OF/LHP Owen Boswell is back to help lead the offense and provide some pitching depth. ‘25 INF/RHP Noah Lowry played a key role as a two-way player last season and will be an even bigger piece this Spring. ‘25 INF/RHP Brodie Fortner contributed a solid bit last season as well. ‘24 C Dylan Phillips caught a good chunk of innings last year and will manage the pitching staff. ‘23 RHP Luke Lavelle will also be a solid option on the mound. The Cougars will have a sizable group of fresh faces getting varsity time this year, headlined by ‘26 OF/RHP Harrison Pollina. They’ll look to make jumps offensively and fresh faces to step up for a deep postseason push. They’ll have the front end pitching to battle with Covington for district bragging rights, but this is a club that has sights on returning to the Spring Fling.
