Prep Baseball Report Georgia

Could not of asked for a better way to start the 2019 Spring. Six high school teams matched up at the Lake Point Complex and brought plenty of talent with them. In today's “Scout Blog” we are going to focus on some of the top committed and uncommitted talent on display.

Caleb Ketchup SS / Holy Innocents' Episcopal, GA / 2020

Quiet, smooth steps create fluid shortstop actions for this future Georgia Bulldog. Kid is a no doubt asset defensively on the next level, but will have to prove he can be impact at shortstop to create serious buzz in the 2020 draft. Really like everything about his game and where it can go. He has sneaky strength at the plate and can run. As Ketchup enters some of the more premium conversations in 2020, size and strength at the plate will be in question, but either way this kid can play the game and is exciting to watch.

Guillermo Granier 2B / Holy Innocents' Episcopal, GA / 2019

This College of Charleston Signee has a good frame with solid infield actions. Worked through the baseball well and ball enters the glove clean. Balanced straight away approach at the plate and showed good speed down the line at 4.34. Not much projection to physical tools, but has a chance to fill out his frame and projects well as a baseball player and will be a very nice addition for College of Charleston starting in 2020.

Preston Joye SS / 2B / Fellowship Christian, GA / 2020

Joye is an uncommitted 2020 MIF prospect that is a very good baseball player that goes to the plate with a plan.  He shows a good combination of selective and aggressive.  He hunts fastballs and does not miss them. Defensively Joye will most likely slide to second-base, and he projects as a steady reliable defender who can be counted on to catch the ball. Feel very confident Joye is a winning player who knows how to get a job done and is locked in for all nine. This uncommitted MIF prospect is going to make somebody a very good and reliable player on the next level.

Zach Turner RHP / North Cobb Christian, GA / 2019

Turner is a Mercer Signee who stands in at 6'2 175 and can really spin the baseball. He flashes a fastball that gets up into the upper-80's and has hand side life, Turner's bread and butter is the breaking ball & it projects to be a true swing and miss pitch. At the next level Turner will need to establish a little more fastball if he wants to be a starter, but no doubt he will show up in Macon with a weapon in his breaking ball.

Harry Ford C / North Cobb, GA / 2021

Uncommitted 2021 Harry Ford is a good looking 5'10 compact young backstop. He posses very good catching ingredients in athleticism and flexibility. Arm strength will not be an issue in the future, but he does have a little dice roll in his compact arm stroke that will need to be ironed out some. This young 2021 looks like he can become a strong catch & throw prospect in a couple years. At the plate Ford good shows rhythm to his right handed swing, and has a chance to run into some pull side power down the line. Very interesting follow and the kind of athlete behind the plate that the big boys are going to line-up for.

Cameron Gill C / Fellowship Christian, GA / 2019

Gill (Wofford Signee) has a good catchers build and an idea of what he is doing behind the plate. His feet work and he shows a good transfer with an accurate arm. At the plate Gill has obvious bat-speed and appears to have a mostly pull approach. As Gill learns to stay over his lower half better at the plate, look for him to show even more power in the future. This is a very good sign for Wofford.

Brandon Haston OF / LHP / East Paulding, GA / 2019

Haston is a very interesting uncommitted OF prospect. He also pitches and could possibly be a better prospect on the mound, but today we focus on him at the plate. Haston has a very good frame at 6'2 180 with broad shoulders. He is a long strider and underway can cover some ground. Defensively Haston has enough arm to profile in RF at the next level. At the plate Haston does not generate much with his lower half and uses a approach similar to old school Kenny Lofton. He is upright and flips a level/flat stroke through the zone with his upper body. He shows good bat to ball skills and saw the ball out of the hand well. This is a good looking prospect with some upside as he learns to use his lower half a little more. Hopefully we will get to see him on the mound before the end of the Spring.
