Scouting Report
06/02/17- Highly projectable 6-foot-4, 185-pound frame with long levers, broad shoulders, high waistand clear, advanced athleticism. Long, loose arm stroke into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and easy effort. Highly athletic delivery with fluid rhythm, and quality direction. Pitched at 84-86 mph with tilt and angle on the fastball that should only get better as his frame fills out. Breaking ball showed sweeping action with quality spin and depth at 72-74 mph. During Friday’s position player workout, which was forced indoors, the left-handed hitter showed power potential, impacting the baseball with force when his long levers synced up, posting a 91 mph exit velocity.
01/21/17- LaFleur looks like he has grown since October, and may be pushing 6-foot-4, especially in spikes. He still has a young face, but looks to have put on 15+ pounds of muscle since the fall. His long arms and legs aid in his deception on the mound. He strides out with a hard push from his backside with a long arm swing that delivers out of a high ¾ slot. The way he throws his glove toward the plate with almost choppy lower body drive is somewhat reminiscent of David Price. He was up to 83 mph on the day, and I expect more to come this spring/summer. His slider showed solid shape, but was not in midseason form, yet. At the plate, LaFleur utilized a simple approach, during batting practice, to spray line drives from gap to gap. LaFleur starts with his hands back, and does not take much of a stride, but it is easy to see the athleticism in his swing. His quick hands get to the ball with ease, but his barrel gets out of the zone just as quickly, right now. As he continues to grow into his long frame, expect LaFleur to find more fluidity in his path as well as discover the power that is waiting to come out.
11/12/16- Very high ceiling for the 6-foot-2, 175-pound LHP/OF. The left handed hitter has everything scouts and coaches look for in potential power left handed bat and corner outfielder. He has a calm and confident setup with good rhythm. He has a simple load and stays on time. He sometimes hits off of a weak front side, but the bat stays in the zone a long time and the ball jumps off of the bat. As he continues to fill out and learns how to really use his lower half, there should be some plus power potential. On the mound showcased a very easy and fluid motion. Has little to no effort in delivery. Arm works very well out front creating good extension and above average command for class. Upper and lower half worked in sync. Fastball sat 81-82 and projects to climb soon. Offspeed is behind the fastball, but projects to be above average given the athleticism and repeatability of delivery. Change up 74-77 mph, CB 67-70 mph. Very interesting two-way prospect, but may be one of the better left handed bats in the 2019 class.
9/17/16- The extremely athletic and projectable 1B/LHP was impressive all the way around. The left handed hitter hits from a tall setup with a medium leg kick and small hand load. He stays in good rhythm and is on time to the baseball. An advanced approach and very good path through the zone produced a first round of line drives to opposite field and a second round of balls driven to the pull side. He stays balanced and relaxed and trusts his hands and path through the zone resulting in consistent quality swings and a line drive single in the game. There is a lot of room to grow and fill out and with the present tools and bat speed expect him to grow into plus power. He was also impressive on the mound. With long, easy, over the top arm action he stays in line to home showing a fastball that ranged from 80-82 mph. He also showed a sweeping slider that ranged from 66-67 mph with shape and potential. There are present tools that play well above his class with an extremely high ceiling both at the plate and on the mound that make him one of the top 2019s in the state.
