The Mississippi high school season kicks off on February 26, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 29, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. Outlook

The Panthers of Petal enter the 2019 season with aspirations on making a deeper run after exiting in the 2nd round of the playoffs in 2018. A core group of seniors will be looked upon to lead some talented underclassmen this season. INF Peyton Rehm and C/INF Colton Rainey should solidify the Panthers defensively. Among the younger players to keep an eye on are Matt Mercer, Garret Barger and DeCarlos Nicholson. Barger will carry the load on the mound as he recorded 25 strikeouts in 2018 in just 18 innings pitched. The Panthers enter 2019 with moderate expectations and know the future looks bright.
