Team Preview: West Marion

The Mississippi high school season kicks off on February 26, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 29, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.
Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.
We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. Outlook
Expectations are high for West Marion after making it to the third round of the playoff in 2018. Returning six starters and four pitchers, Coach Derrick Jerkins will rely heavily on their experience on the mound to carry them through the 2019 campaign. The pitching staff will be lead by Pearl River signee, RHP Shelby Terrell who is currently ranked No. 57 in the Mississippi 2019 class after a solid junior season logging 80 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched. Two way player Dalton Raynes will also have a big role on the mound this year for the Trojans while C Clay Blocker will control the staff from behind the dish. The Trojans enter the 2019 campaign with high hopes and know the future is bright as they look to build on there 21 win season in 2018.
