The LakePoint Classic took place this past weekend, June 13th through the 16th. Over 65 teams from four age groups (14U-17U)  came to LakePoint Sporting Community in Cartersville, GA to compete. Today, we present to you the 16U Scout Blog. The Scout Blog provides insider information and scouting notes from the PBR Scouting Staff during the tournament. Featured in the blog is information unsigned prospects, draft prospects and anything else that is notable. 16U Next Lvl


Hunter Gulledge, RHP, Paulding County, 2021
6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed pitcher, strong, physical frame, XL build, power pitcher mold. Fastball worked 84-87 from an over-the-top slot. Changeup, 78 mph, hard horizontal fade. Curveball at 77 mph.


20 Baseball

Brandon Dover, OF, Trion (GA), 2022
6-foot, 120-pounds. Stringed together a handful of good AB’s with patience at the plate and hitting the ball where it was pitched. Lot of room for the potential to add power down the road.
615 Baseball Club

James McCracken, LHP/1B/OF, Middle Tennessee Christian (TN), 2021
Tennessee commit. 6-foot-3 185-pounds. Impressed as a true two-way prospect. ¾ release point with mechanics that rival Madison Bumgarner. Heavy fastball that got up to 91 while sitting 88-90. Paired with a sweeping SL he was able to spot up on both corners of the plate. Produced a lot of swing and misses working up in the zone and used a hesitation move on occasion to mess with hitters timing. Tall, projectable frame that shows extra velo is in the tank once it begins to fill out. 


Kyle Magrans, RHP/3B, Clarksville (TN), 2021
Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 195-pound two-way prospect, an athletic prospect with a strong build. Continued to show he is a legitimate two-way prospect after back to back strong showings at the PBR GA Showdown and LakePoint Classic. On the mound got the start versus Dulins Dodgers on Sunday in the semifinals. Arm action is short, getting to a high ¾ slot quickly, hides the ball well on the back-side. Keeps everything working on-line, finishes square. Fastball touched 86, sat mostly 83-85. Worked mostly of his fastball, offered up curveball sparingly. Offensively, taps into strength in frame, looks to drive the ball, present pull-side power.


643 DP Cougars - Sterling

Peyton Cariaco, LHP, Pope (GA), 2021
6-foot, 190-pound left-handed pitcher, strong, solid frame. Came on in relief on Sunday against Dulins Dodgers. Long arm action, with a circular movement, to a high ¾ slot. Pitched with confidence and feel. Fastball sat 81-83, touched 85 mph. Lived low and on the corners with changeup, advanced feed for, fade and sick action, 73-74. Had a plan when he entered to attack the Dodgers lineup with a healthy dose of changeups and executed. Also showed a tight slider at 71 mph.
Quinn Kerce, RHP/OF, Pope (GA), 2021
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and pitcher, athletic build, strength in frame. Stood out offensively for his balanced approach, made hard contact to all fields, good feel for the barrel, generates power. On the mound, fastball sat 80-82. Mixed in a 10/4 slurve-like breaking ball at 70-71 and a changeup with fade at 73.
Christian Smith, OF, Grady (GA), 2021
Vanderbilt commit. Physical 6-foot-2, 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder, athletic, projectable build. Offensively, takes a balanced approach at the plate, short hand load back, short stride, remains balanced throughout. High level hand speed, barrel whips through the zone, generates hard contact to all fields, level barrel path creates line drive contact.
Dwight Banks, SS/2B, McEachern (GA), 2021
Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 156-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder. Stood out defensively at shortstop for 643. Showed good all around athleticism, clean footwork around the bah, quick on exchanges, arm works loosely.

Andrew Herrmann, LHP, Campbell (GA), 2021
6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed pitcher, strong, athletic frame, projectable build. Arm works short to a high ¾ slot, stays tall throughout delivery, finishes crossing over towards third. Fastball up to 85 mph, sat 81-83 (2100-2200 rpm). Curveball showed good 1/7 shape with depth at 72.
A-Town Falcons

Chase Hungate, SS/RHP, Abingdon (VA), 2021
Liked what Hungate put on display this past weekend. Effective on the mound in his two starts with an equally impressive showing in the field and at the top of the lineup. Dropped down to a submarine arm slot, inducing nothing but weak contact and ground outs. FB got up to 81 on multiple occasions (1950rpm) while sitting 79-80 in both outings. Got onto hitters quick with his 6.5ft worth of extension to the plate. Offensively, takes a simple approach, balanced setup, short stride, short load. Line drive type hitter, looks to hit the ball where it is pitched.


Ethan Gibson, RHP/SS, Abingdon (VA), 2023

5-foot-10, 137-pound two-way prospect, athletic build, strong lower half, advanced feel for age, projectable. On the mound, arm works short with a quick, low draw to a ¾ slot, quick hand speed. Drop and drive delivery, works on-line, lands square and finishes athletically. Fastball ranged 79-83, mixed in an 11/5 curveball at 67-71. A young arm playing up, handled himself well.


Caleb Collins, OF/3B, Abingdon (VA), 2021
5-foot-9, 125-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and third baseman, athletic build, compact strength, still physically developing. Hitting out of the three-hole, consistently found barrels. Smoked a standup triple to right-center. Good runner, takes long strides.

BigStix Baseball

Cameron Mobley, OF, Piedmont Academy (GA), 2021
6-foot, 168-pound left-handed outfielder, athletic build, plays the game with a chip on his shoulder. Smooth left-handed swing, takes a simple approach, uses the whole field, balanced setup, high hands drop and load back, short stride, remains balanced. Aggressive runner on the base paths, looks to take the extra base, puts pressure on the defense.
Carson Huber, RHP/OF, Union Grove (GA), 2021
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed two-way prospect, lean athlete. Clean delivery, keeps everything in-line, lands square, finishes athletically Arm action is short and loose, accelerates quickly to a ¾ slot. Fastball sat 81-83, touched 84. Slider has tight spin at 71-73. OFfensively, line drive type hitter.
Daylon Carleton, OF, Parkview (GA), 2021
5-foot-10, 185-pound left-handed hitting outfielder, thick frame, strength throughout. Offensively, swings works athletically, barrel uphill, generates bat speed and power from frame. Above average arm strength, moves well in the outfield 

Cincinnati Riverbats

Carter Rust, 3B, Lakota West (OH), 2021
6-foot-1 150-pounds. Lean and athletic frame that showed gap to gap abilities at the plate as a result of his quick hands. Projectable frame that could provide power to become a real strong suit of his down the road.

Complete Game 16U

David Bell, C/RHP, Greenbrier (GA), 2022
6-foot-0 180 pounds. FB got up to 84 (2267rpm) and was effective up in the zone. SL kept batters guessing with 10/4 shape at 73mph. Clean lower half mechanics, and repeatability among his FB/SL mix.


Brett Zerbel, LHP, Augusta Christian (GA), 2021
6-foot, 185-pound left-handed pitcher, strength throughout frame. Long arm action, shows low on the back-side, somewhat rotational to a low ¾ slot. Keeps delivery on-line, lands square, finishes athletically. Fastball sat 80-83 with heavy armside run, lived on the outer half. Curveball, 1/7 shape, 67-78, took some time to find feel for.


Dulins Dodgers Prime

Ryan Ginther, LHP, Station Camp (TN), 2021
Vanderbilt commit. 5-foot-11 160-pounds. Athletic and projectable frame that was a strong presence on the mound. FB sat 86-88 and topped out at 90 with above average spin at 2322rpm. Was able to command both sides of the plate very well. Clean arm action out of the overhand delivery. Shows a controlled motion despite being a max intent guy. Works downhill, generating a lot of power out of his legs. 

Braden Montgomery, UTL, Germantown (MS), 2021
6-foot-2 185 pounds. The uncommitted rising junior really impressed this weekend showing gap to gap abilities as a result of his lightning quick hands. Short and simple swing from the left side, Montgomery has the speed to turn singles into extra base hits; as he proved to hold true on multiple occasions.


Tayler Montiel, LHP, Brentwood Academy (TN), 2021
Mississippi State commit. 6-foot-1, 160-pound left-handed pitcher, lanky athlete. Arm works short on the back-side, gets quickly to ¾ slot with loose action, repeats well, balls jumps out of hands. Works in an uptempo fashion, gets the ball and goes. Fastball sat mostly 85-87 over two outings, touched 88 and 89 a number of times, showed armside run, got swing misses all over the zone. Tight sweeping curveball at 75-78, swing and miss type pitch, feel for.


Lane Forsythe, MIF/RHP, Trinity Christian (TN), 2020
Mississippi State commit. 5-foot-10, 165-pound two-way prospect, athletic frame with strength throughout. Saw time up the middle at shortstop and second base as well as on the mound. Showed good range defensively and a soft glove, arm works loosely with more than enough strength to stick on the left-side. Offensively, takes a balanced, open setup, smooth hand load, cocks barrel vertically, short stride, remains balanced throughout. Takes a gap-to-gap approach, can drive the ball to all fields, gets extension through contact. On the mound, works with a short, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, straight, touched 88, mostly 85-87.Curveball showed good 11/5 shape, depth to it, feel for, 73-75. Comfortable working in and out with fastball and curveball.

 

William Kohn, LHP, Chilton County (AL), 2021
Mississippi State commit. 6-foot-4, 185-pounds, long, lanky frame, projectable build, moves athletically. Arm works quickly on the back-side, low draw with a short reach to a ¾ slot, effortless delivery. Keeps momentum on-line, lands toe-closed, finishes crossing over. Made two appearances at the LakePoint Classic, both lights out. Started on Thursday in which his fastball played up to 88, ranged 84-88, was locating in and out effectively, mixed in a 1/7 curveball at 68 mph. On Sunday, Kohn made a relief appearance, working more downhill, fastball was up to 87 mph. Works with a quick pace, throws a high volume of strikes. High follow arm in the 2021 class.


Blaze Jordan, 1B, DeSoto Central (MS), 2020
Mississippi State commit. Recently reclassified from the 2021 class, where he was the No. 2 overall prospect, to the 2020 class. Physical with strength in both halves at 6-foot-2, 215-pounds, right-handed hitter has quick hands and athletic actions. Known for his bat, Jordan did not disappoint at the LakePoint Classic. Generates easy bat speed and immense power from frame, high level hand speed allows for him to gain extension, looks to elevate the ball and drive it for power. Hit a towering solo home run that left the park quickly on Sunday, using wood, the ball traveled 370 feet with a exit velocity of 96 mph, a pitch earlier hooked one fall with an exit velocity of 107 mph. An elite power bat in the 2020 class.


TJ Watts, RHP, Northwest Rankins (MS), 2021
Uncommitted. 5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed pitcher, strong lower half. Short arm action, works clean on the back-side, hides the ball well to a high ¾ slot. Drop and drive delivery, works on-line, lands square, finishes athletically. Fastball sat 84-86. Curveball, 11/5 shape, depth, 64 mph.
Max Soliz, C, Homeschool (TX), 2021
Arkansas commit. Highly projectable 6-foot-4, 205-pound long, lanky, right-handed hitting catcher Offensively, starts in an open setup with weight on his back leg, hands extended back just below shoulder height, front arm nearly locked, hands drop on load, short stride, showed good balance. Generates hard contact with a power approach, long arms create leverage, tires to elevate the ball to the pull side. With continued physical development will generate elite level power at the plate.
Slate Alford, 3B, Bob Jones (AL), 2021
Auburn commit. 6-foot-2, 218-pound right-handed hitter, physical framae, strength throughout, carries himself with quiet confidence. Offensively, balanced setup, starts with weight on back leg, hands near the ear load back smoothly, short stride, remains balanced, quiet movements. Elite level hand and bat speed for class, takes a power approach at the plate, creates hard contact, uses the whole field. Defensively, showed off soft hands, smooth footwork, advanced body control for frame, arm works short and loose from multiple slots. Made a number of spectacular plays at third.
Samuel Poindexter, LHP, Collierville (TN), 2020
Uncommitted. 6-foot-4, 225-pounds, big, strong build, XL frame, left-handed pitcher. Works with an easy effort throughout delivery. Arm is short on the back-side, gets to a ¾ slot. Fastball sat 83-85, touched 86. Broke off a tight slider at 70-72 with late break.
Jeffery Ince, SS/2B, Jackson Prep (MS), 2021
Mississippi State commit. 5-foot-11, 178-pound middle infielder, switch-hitter, athletically built with strength throughout frame, packs a punch. Offensively, swings it athletically, is able to drive the ball with barrel control, uses the whole field. Hit out of the leadoff position for Dulins Dodgers all tournament and did it all. Hit for power, hit for average, laid down bunts, stole bases, scored runs and made plays up the middle defensively.

Game Time Baseball

Cory Franks, LHP, Summertown (KY), 2021
6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed pitcher, long, lanky frame. Arm works short to a low ¾ slot. Gets to balance point with some stiffness in lower half, lands toe closed, finishes crossing over. Fastball sat in the upper 70s, touched 80, kept low in the zone, effectively induced weak contact. Picked up the win over Dulins Dodgers, scattered 10 hits and four runs over seven innings.
Noah Berndt, C/OF, Winneconne (WI), 2021
6-foot-2, 215-pound right-handed hitting catcher and outfielder, strong, physical frame. Stood out for Game Time offensively, hitting out of the two-hole. Hits from an open setup with an athletic bend to his knees, little-to-no hand load, short stride, keeps it simple, maintains good balance throughout. Gap-to-gap type hitter, generates hard contact. Put together two really nice at-bats facing top level pitching against Dulins Dodgers, hit line drive singles into right field and left field, uses the whole field.
Dawson Hargrove, RHP, Spring Hill (TN), 2021
Uncommitted. Stands 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, strong frame, room for continued physical development. Short, quick arm action, ¾ slot, hides the ball well, syncs up lower half well. Fastball sat 82-84, touched 85, high volume of strikes, commanded. Curveball, 12/6 shape, 70-71. 
Jaden Hamm, RHP/SS, Columbia Central (TN), 2020
Middle Tennessee State commit. 6-foot-1, 175-pound two-way prospect, good athletic build. Works fast on the mound, utilizes a full arm swing on the draw, freely moving arm action, ball comes out of the hand easy. Fastball sat 84-86, added in a late breaking curveball at 71-72.
Georgia Scorpions

Hagan Banks, RHP, Calhoun, 2021
6-foot-4, 185-pound ultra projectable right-handed pitcher, long, strong frame, plenty of room for added mass. Has had an impressive summer at the PBR GA Showdown and LakePoint Classic. Attacked a loaded Dulins Dodgers lineup. Arm works with a short stab on the back-side, accelerates quickly to a high ¾ slot with ease. Lower half works on-line, stride lands on the third base side of the rubber, finishes crossing over. Fastball sat 83-85, located up and down in the zone. Curveball played at 67-68.
Kentucky Diamond Kings

Brady Parrott, RHP, Ballard Memorial (KY), 2020
6-foot-5, 180-pound right-handed pitcher, long, lanky frame, plenty of room for added mass to frame. Arm works short and clean on the back-side, with length in frame arm action allows for rest of delivery to stay in sync, works downhill. Tall and fall delivery, stays on-line, lands square, finishes with a cross over. Fastball up to 85 mph in the 1st, good tilt on the pitch. Alos mixed in a tight slider/cutter at 75-77
Max Puckett, RHP, Fairfield (IL), 2021
Standing 6-foot-4, 235-pounds, Puckett presents a physical frame with a strong lower half. Powerful tall and fall delivery, coils hips at balance point, slow on the draw, reaches back low, shows on the back-side, accelerates quickly, with effort, to a ¾ slot. Spins off to finish. Fastball was up to 85 in the 1st, settled in at 81-84. Used curveball sparingly, 12/6 shape, at 73 mph. Relied heavily on fastball.
Midwest Prospects

Ryan Horak, RHP/CIF/OF, Little Miami HS (OH), 2020
6-foot-1, 215-pounds. A true two-way prospect. Horak threw a complete game in his only appearance on the mound this weekend. Large, physical frame that had a short and simple swing with above average pop.
Austin Hubbard, RHP, Mason (OH), 2020

5-foot-11, 140-pound right-handed pitcher. Started on the mound against the Kentucky Diamond Kings. Arm works short to an over-the-top slot, repeats well. Tall and fall delivery, momentum stays on-line, lands square, finishes athletically. Fastball sat 81-84 early, 12/6 curveball flashed alte break at 64-67. Did a really nice job of using his fastball/curveball combination to his advantage. Lived in the upper half of the zone and then would drop in a 12/6 breaker, got batters to chase.
NV Stars

Jake Faherty, RHP/OF, Scott County (KY), 2021
6-foot-4, 170-pound two-way prospect, long, lanky frame, projectable build. On the mound, arm is live and loose, erratic with command but with work could be a very intriguing arm. Fastball touched 88, sat 84-87.
