There isn't much more to say about a North Penn program that has captured two of the past three PIAA class 4A state titles, and three since 2009, other than head coach Kevin Manero has established the Knights as the preeminent program in the state's largest classification during his four seasons leading his alma mater.
It didn't come easy, however, as the Knights were pushed to the brink by Wyoming Valley West in a thrilling 4-3, eight-inning nightcap of the PIAA championship quadruple-header. WVW knotted the score twice, in the fifth and again in the seventh, but NP had an answer each time. The deciding run scored on an error in the top of the eighth and senior right-handed pitcher James Witner finished off a complete game effort in the bottom half.
Despite not having overpowering pitchers, North Penn used a familiar formula from its previous title -- competitive strike-throwers, solid defense, and a deep, balanced line-up -- to complete its post-season run and finish the season with a 23-4 record.
