Prep Baseball Report

Uncommitted '22 Prospects (pt 1)

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

Bellevue, WA - Throughout July, we had the opportunity to see over 100 players across multiple events at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.

Summer events events such as this provide players with the opportunity to build their profile with the most up-to-date information and video footage. All players in attendance receive an online profile with their verified statistics, player report, picture and video. Additionally, all subsequent stories written about a prospect will be linked to the player’s profile, ultimately creating a one-stop shop for recruiters.

Showcases help identify which prospects have asserted themselves towards the top of their class as well as who might be one of the next youngsters to emerge onto the scene. They also serve as potential identifiers for invite-only events such as our Future Games and Junior Future Games

WASHINGTON SUMMER KICKOFF

uncommitted 2022 prospects

Indy Anderson 1B / 3B / Shorecrest, WA / 2022

Big framed with a thick lower half at 6-foot-1, 210 pounds. Quiet, relaxed set-up in the box with lower half slightly open. Starts tall and keeps a strong back leg as he gets into low leg lift. Short stride into landing. Hands stay loaded near back shoulder after using a short, quick load to sync up with lower half. Creates above average bat speed with repeatable effort. Rotates exceptionally well and holds posture thru contact. Mostly line-drive contact with more lift when working to his pull-side. Big target at the bag at 1B. Handled all the fielding opportunities he had on this look with deliberate actions and a steady glove hand. Stays under control and lets the ball come to him. Clean footwork when coming off of the bag and handling a double play feed. Should be a reliable defender with a solid catch radius.

Delano Calimlim OF / C / North Creek , WA / 2022

Noticeable strength in upper half with a sturdy frame at 6-foot, 215 pounds. Offensively sets up in the box with an open stance and some flexion in his lower half. Starts open before getting into his leg kick and forward move. Consistent, rhythmic hand load. Keeps hands tight, stay short and quick to the ball with extension after contact. Easy bat speed. Hits against a firm front leg at contact to get more lift/leverage. Defensively, worked out at C on this look. Showing a low, compact target and some flexibility/range of motion in his lower half. Used a one-knee-down set up when receiving. In the crouched position, had a slightly staggered lower half. Consistent footwork into throwing motion with a compact, over the top release.

Jackson Ely OF / 3B / Juanita, WA / 2022

6-foot, 185 pounds with a high waisted frame and more room to fill out. Narrow set up in the box with an open lower half. Closes off his stance with a short forward stride into a toe tap move. Hands show some rhythm/movement as they stretch back to create separation. Has some easy barrel whip thru the zone with loud contact when everything syncs up together. Intriguing power potential to tap into. Stays tall thru contact with a high finish. Showcased well in corner OF. Covers ground easily with long strides and consistent tempo when getting to the ball. Clean footwork when working down to the ball and then getting into throwing motion. Uses a side shuffle to redirect towards target and get momentum behind the ball. Longer arm path with a low ¾ slot.

Keaton Fisher 1B / RHP / Glacier Peak, WA / 2022

Fisher has filled out his 6-foot-4, 195 pound frame a bit from when we saw him back in February. The stance is virtually identical as our last look, with the only adjustment being a bit more bend in his lower half and a wider hitting base. Giving him some additional adjustability and athleticism in the box. Puts an easy forward move on the ball with limited movement, which helps him keep everything quiet before initiating his swing. Rotates easily and has some controlled violence in his barrel. The size, bat speed and swing plane should make him a consistent power threat. Defensively, profiles well at 1B with his length and footwork. Starts in a wide, balanced set-up with low hips in his pre-pitch routine. Short, choppy footwork around the bag when working to the ball. Looked comfortable adjusting his throws when needed. Long arm path with a ¾ release point.

Kollin Gifford C / 1B / Yelm, WA / 2022

Strong, developed frame at 6-foot-1, 220 pounds. Proportionally built between upper and lower half. Hits from a narrowly open stance in the box. Upper half starts slightly rotated inward before he takes a short stride into a toe tap. Coils into back hip even further before shifting forward into heel strike. Rotational swing plane into the zone and thru contact before finishing uphill. Keeps a strong front side throughout and could lift the ball more consistently as he continues to develop. Behind the dish, does a solid job staying low in his set-up. Hips really sink low and help him work from underneath the ball. Keeps flexion in his glove arm while receiving. Consistent actions getting out of crouch and into throwing motion. Tight, bent arm action with over the top release. Ball flight showed consistent carry to the bag.

Joe Githens C / 3B / O'Dea , WA / 2022

6-foot-1, 190 pounds. Strong, stocky lower half with present strength in upper body as well. Tall, narrow set up at the plate. Starts upright & relaxed with lower hand placement before taking a low, controlled stride. Hands stay below shoulder line and work into the zone quickly, creating some depth with his barrel and helping him stay behind the ball. Hands show quickness with strength at point of contact. Consistent line-drive contact with gap-to-gap power. Defensively shows solid flexibility behind the plate with a quiet, low set- up when receiving. Controls a soft glove hand and lets the ball travel into his stance. Slightly staggered footwork. Stayed low till he came out of his crouched position. Repeatable actions into throwing motion. Tight, compact arm action with high release. Ball flight stayed true on all throws with consistent carry.

Colby Holmdahl 1B / LHP / Glacier Peak, WA / 2022

5-foot-10, 195 pounds with balanced strength between upper and lower half. At the plate, showed a similar set-up to what we saw on our previous look this past winter. Starts narrow, with an open stance and tall posture. Leg kick has gotten more emphatic with a lengthier stride into landing. Hands stay back into landing and help create solid separation against front half. Barrel works thru the zone quickly with some whip and a high, extended finish. Mostly worked the gaps in BP with a line-drive approach. Could see more lift to his pull-side as he gets stronger. L/L profile fits well over at 1B. Defends with an aggressive tempo and some energy in his actions. Starts tall with a bit of rhythm and movement in his footwork leading up to contact. Adjusted arm slot as needed with clean, whippy arm action. On the mound, continues to use a quick paced, up tempo delivery. Gets the ball and goes. Stays tall at leg lift before slight drop and drive action in his lower half at hand break. Works downhill after creating some angle with his shoulders as he gets down the slope. Brief stab in arm action before working into high ¾ release point. FIlls up the bottom of the zone with 3-pitch-mix.

Bryce Johnson OF / C / Meridian, WA / 2022

6-foot-2, 175 pounds with a wide, projectable frame and athletic build. Could fill out considerably and add significant strength. Uses a very open, narrow set-up in the box with loose, relaxed hands. Adjusts direction towards pitcher as he rotates inward at leg lift and then gets into forward stride. Lands in a wide, balanced hitting position with a quiet head. Stays in his legs and gets barrel out in front at contact, working mostly to the middle of the field during BP. Controls the barrel well and flashed some adjustability in his swing. Intriguing power potential to tap into. Defensively, had a strong showing in the OF and should stick at the position long-term. Clean, consistent footwork. Understands how to use his length when covering ground but also can shorten up when breaking down towards the baseball. Consistent exchange when funneling ball into throwing motion. Long, continuous arm path with high ¾ release.
