Uncommitted '22 Prospects (pt 2)

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

Bellevue, WA - Throughout July, we had the opportunity to see over 100 players across multiple events at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.

Summer events events such as this provide players with the opportunity to build their profile with the most up-to-date information and video footage. All players in attendance receive an online profile with their verified statistics, player report, picture and video. Additionally, all subsequent stories written about a prospect will be linked to the player’s profile, ultimately creating a one-stop shop for recruiters.

Showcases help identify which prospects have asserted themselves towards the top of their class as well as who might be one of the next youngsters to emerge onto the scene. They also serve as potential identifiers for invite-only events such as our Future Games and Junior Future Games

WASHINGTON SUMMER KICKOFF

UNCOMMITTED 2022 PROSPECTS

Mason Kelley 3B / RHP / Sumner , WA / 2022

6-foot-2, 180 pounds with a long, lanky frame. Uses a wide, slightly open set-up in the box with subtle bend in his lower half. Athletic posture with slight rhythm in hands before using a low leg lift and “knee knock” move with his lower half. Low hand placement gets barrel on plane early & allows him to work quick/direct the ball. Weight stays centered as he rotates thru core and holds finish thru contact. Creates bat speed easily into a high, lofted finish. Defensively, shows a balanced pre-pitch set up with a quick hop prior to taking his first step. Adjusts posture to receive ball on the outside of his glove-arm side, then comes thru with steady momentum/tempo. Funnels ball deep into stance. Occasional ‘tap’ action on the exchange into throwing motion. Short, bent arm action with a high ¾ release & consistent ball flight. On the mound, uses a smooth, quick paced delivery with repeatable actions. Works from the left-side of the rubber. Stays tall with a high, athletic leg kick. Slight coil into back hip before breaking hands and getting down the mound. Back leg has some flexion into stride while keeping a level shoulder plane. Full, continuous arm action into high ¾ release. Lands under control with extension out front and a balanced finish thru release. Stays on top of the ball with all of his offerings and keeps everything around the zone.

Cody Marx OF / RHP / Inglemoor, WA / 2022

6-foot, 180 pounds with a square upper half and wiry frame. From the left side, starts in a tall, open stance with some weight shifted onto his backside. Slowly loads more weight back while taking a low leg lift into forward stride. Hands start even with shoulder line then load down & back to create stretch against his front side. Has some action/movement with his barrel that syncs up with knee-knock load. Easy, uphill path with a high finish. Gap to gap power presently with a consistent feel for the barrel. Defensively, actions played well in the OF. Uses long, lengthy strides with his first move then shortens up with quicker, choppier feet as he gets ready to funnel the ball in. Exchanges ball at waist height as he gets into a side shuffle to adjust his alignment towards target. Gets slightly airborne to put more momentum behind the throw. Long, full arm path into ¾ release. Back side comes thru as he finishes throw.

Griffin Miller C / OF / Eastlake, WA / 2022

6-foot-1, 190 with a wide, sloped upper half. Strong bodied athlete. Offensively has some of the best pure bat speed we’ve seen in the class. Sets up with feet just outside of shoulder width. Has some bend in lower half with a slightly open stance. Short, quick hover on backside as he lifts front leg into forward stride. Hands pull down and back with a subtle scap load. Creates significant separation against his front side and rotates quickly thru his core. Barrel has a slight uphill path at contact. Showed consistent lift during BP, especially to his pull-side. Finishes against a strong/posted front leg to help create more leverage. Behind the plate, has shown consistent progress and development with his catching across the multiple looks we’ve had. Uses a staggered, one-knee set-up with receiving. Keeps flexion in glove arm while framing. Moves out of crouch easily with clean footwork and consistent exchange. Short, over the top arm action. Stays behind the ball well & gets true carry to the bag.

Aidan Rady RHP / OF / Steilacoom, WA / 2022

Big, durable frame at 6-foot-4, 192 pounds. Present strength with the chance to add even more physicality and handle additional weight. Steady-paced, repeatable delivery with sound throwing mechanics. Gets into leg lift on the left side of the rubber. Stays tall with slight coil into his back hip. Front knee drives up and back towards rear shoulder. Back leg has slight bend at hand break. Creates slight shoulder tilt as he gets down the mound but levels off as he gets into his landing. Stride foot opens up and gives him clean direction towards target. Keeps arm action tight, compact with a short path into his release point. Works from a high ¾ slot. Balanced finish out front with hand speed thru release. Consistent feel for a 3-pitch mix. Looks poised to make a jump with his pure stuff heading into next season.

Zak Ufford SS / RHP / Hazen, WA / 2022

6-foot-3, 155 pounds with a tall, wiry frame and room for additional strength. In the box, uses a tall, narrow stance with upright posture. Front side starts closed off with stride foot rotated inwards. Stays tall as he shifts back into a knee-knock load. Hands push back to create stretch against his stride. Weight stays centered at landing. Barrel works thru the zone on a flat path with a mostly level finish after contact. Braces up with his front leg and rotates thru a strong front side. Showed mostly pull-side action throughout BP. Defensively, does a solid job keeping footwork short, quick on the INF despite the length in his lower half. Uses a hip hinge to work down/over the ball as he funnels deep into his stance. Soft glove hand when receiving ball in. Flashed a quick, low exchange as he gets into throwing motion. Full arm path with a low ¾ slot. Adjusted release on double play feed with quick actions in his hands.
