Scouting Report

Report: Wheatley is a product of a the Calgary Bucks Program and a very versatile talent on the diamond. With a 6-foot-3 and 180 pound build, Wheatley moves well and has displayed athleticism that commands attention both on the mound and in the field at shortstop.  Wheatley possesses sure hands and very clean footwork and pairs that with advanced for his age footwork at shortstop, covering a lot of ground.  Wheatley also has shown an arm that works and has carry across the diamond and produces this from a quick slot and release showing the potential to make plays from deep in the hole. At the plate, Wheatley shows his ability to hit the ball hard and consistently.  His athleticism comes into play at the plate once again where he showed the ability to produce very good bat speed,  while keeping his stride short and in rhythm, Wheatley has shown to have a very mature approach at the plate, hitting the ball hard to all fields with feel for the barrel.  Wheatley also has the bat path and speed that translates to big pull-side power potential.  On the mound, Wheatley has a very clean and quick arm path with a finish that appears very low effort.  His fastball sits around 85 MPH and pairs it with a sharp slider and a bigger breaking curveball that continues to develop.  Wheatley is one the most versatile players in our 2022 class and is going to be an immediate asset wherever he winds up playing his college baseball with a big ceiling and lots more to come.

Jack is a tall, very athletic body that screams projectability. He’s got plus glovework and even smoother footwork. Jack crushes the baseball averaging an exit velocity of 85-86 mph off the tee, which for a 2022 grad is incredible. Even more impressive is his maturing approach at the plate, it could be scary! Sits 82-84 mph on the mound, and touches 85-86, with a harder, tighter wipe out slider and a slower bigger-breaking curveball.
