PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Kubiatowicz: I have heard from many schools at all levels of play.  Each one has unique benefits and the coaches have been great to talk with.  I have had serious conversations with South Dakota State, Sacramento State, North Dakota State, Central Michigan, Concordia St Paul and Augustana.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future?

Kubiatowicz: I have visited Concordia, Sacramento State, South Dakota State and have attended prospect camps at Univ of MN, Augustana and Univ of Iowa is 9/2.  It has been a busy summer with baseball and now fall sports are starting up so it is tricky finding time to travel. I might have to miss a few days of school to get them all in.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school?

Kubiatowicz: I would like to play baseball as long as possible, so I am looking for a program with a proven track record of developing players.  In addition to this, I would like to leverage my baseball skills to get the best education I can. I worked hard in high school and plan to do so in college.  A high academic school with programs in biological or chemical fields would be ideal. I am kind of a math and science guy so a focus on that would be great.

PBR: What were some of your highlights during your junior year?

Kubiatowicz: I have always played local, in season baseball at the highest level possible which included Legion ball.  In my junior year I decided to play club ball in the summer which helped a lot. Playing higher level talent across the country at various tournaments gave me an opportunity to improve my skills against some of the better players.  I also started taking lessons at the Minnesota Baseball Academy starting in January. They helped me correct a few things and my fastball jumped from 84 mph to 91 mph in 7 months. They also adjusted my swing significantly. I used to be a contact hitter getting on first 75% of the time and now i am hitting doubles and triples with 4 homeruns.  Big changes this year.

PBR: What are your goals for this year?

Kubiatowicz: I will stop throwing on November 1st to take a break and rest my arm.  I am 6’ 3” and currently weight 215 lbs.  I would like to add another 10 – 15 lbs and will do this with a disciplined weight program in the offseason.  I will spend late winter getting ready for the spring season and expect my pitching velocity to continue to improve.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Kubiatowicz: I play 3 other sports currently but know that this will drop to one in college.  I am the captain of the North St Paul High School soccer team playing center back.  I use the same motion as baseball to throw the ball 40 yards from the sideline and have many assists that way.  I am also the place kicker for our high school football team. This season I am kicking the ball out of the end zone for kickoffs in practice and look forward to Friday nights this fall.  For the last 13 years I have played hockey in the winter. I am in my 4th year of varsity playing defense and will serve as captain of our high school team.  In the spring I play baseball for North St. Paul. Our family is also big fans of the discus (my brother Jake was a 2 time state champion) and our track coach has said that he will allow me to throw in meets that don’t conflict with baseball.  This is primarily for fun but I think I can place in the conference and section meets.

PBR: What is your ACT and GPA?

Kubiatowicz: My GPA is 3.62 with a focus on AP/CIS and college prep classes.  I have taken the ACT and scored a 23. I expect to retake the test as I believe I can improve on that.
