The Virginia/DC Underclass Preview was held on Saturday, February 18th at Virginia Sports Complex in Ruther Glen, VA. 40 athletes from across the state were in attendance and performed in front of the PBR scouting staff. We began the evaluations process with our Stats Story and Rapid Reaction. Today our player analysis from the event turns to the pitcher analysis.

Mark Evans SS York 2018
Evans is 5-9 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side from an open athletic stance with high hands. Short stride on line, smooth load back, good rhythm. Explosive hips and good balance to swing. Short to ball, working uphill through it with extension, quick bat. Showed good approach using middle of field, line drive swing with gap power and more to come, exit velocity of 94. At short, quick clean footwork, fields with wide base. Above average hands, clean exchange, throws from high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 79. Ran a 6.72 60 yard dash.

Garrett Howard SS Courtland 2018
Howard is 5-11 and has a lanky frame, hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, short stride on line with load back and wrap, good rhythm. Some hip explosion and good balance to swing. Uphill swing path with extension through the ball, worked gap to gap with a line drive swing, exit velocity was 83. At short, clean footwork and above average hands. Clean exchange, throwing from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 78. 60 time was 6.84.

Mervilus is 5-8 with a lankier athletic frame, hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced stance. Very short stride on line, slight load back, some rhythm to swing. Good hips and balance to swing, short to ball with a level line drive swing. Good approach, worked middle of the field, exit velocity was 85. At short, clean footwork, good lateral footspeed, above average hands. Clean transfer, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 82. Ran a 6.90 60.

Ryan Baker SS Lake Braddock 2018
Baker is a 5-9 and has an athletic frame, hits from right side from an upright athletic stance. Short leg kick stride, smooth load back, good rhythm. Good hips with good balance to swing. Short level line drive swing, good approach working middle of the field, exit velocity was 76. At short, quick footwork, rounds ball well and plays through it, good soft hands. Short arm action, three-quarters arm slot, position velocity of 72.

Ryan Dooley SS South Lakes 2020
Dooley is 5-9 with an athletic frame, hits from the left side from a balanced athletic stance. Strides closed with short load back, good rhythm. Ok hips and some balance. Short, quick swing, level path, line drive hitter with some power potential. Good approach, used middle of field, exit velocity was 76. Dye is 5-10 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Leg kick stride, slight load back, some hip explosion and some balance to swing. Mason is 5-10 with a strong lower half, hits from an open stance with a wide base, short stride on line with smooth load back. Explosive hips, longer path working uphill with extension through the ball. Pull approach with some strength, exit velocity was 80. In the infield, average footwork and average hands. Clean exchange, low three-quarters arm action with a short arm action, position velocity of 80.

Jay Nesson SS/RHP George Mason 2019
Nesson is 5-11 with a lanky frame, hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, loads back with slight wrap. Good hips and good balance to swing, short to ball, works slightly uphill with extension through the ball. Showed good approach, using whole field, exit velocity was 75.
