Underclass Showcase 7.9.13: Middle Infield Analysis

Today we begin to breakdown the Underclass Showcase from July 9 at Bellarmine University in Louisville with a look at the group of middle infield prospects at the event.

Across the board, the 8 prospects from the class of 2015, 2016, and 2017 were an impressive defensive group. 

Ethan Harrison (2015, Dixie Heights) registered the top 60 time from the group at 7.03 on a slow track.  Harrison also showed a solid swing with the most power of the group. 

Aaron McGeorge (2015, Henry Clay) showed the most arm strength at 81 mph across the infield.

Class of 2015 Prospects

Ethan Harrison, SS, Dixie Heights HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 160-pound prospect, shows good footwork, soft hands, quick exchange, good range and lateral movement, accurate arm at 75 mph across the infield.  At the plate, hits from an open stance, smooth load, good rhythm in swing, good use of lower half creates bat speed through the zone, shows quick hands and the ability to barrel up the inner half pitch, has some pull power and consistently squared up the baseball, ran 7.03 60 yard dash, 80 mph tee exit velocity, very good 2015 prospect.

Aaron McGeorge, SS/OF/RHP, Henry Clay HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 150-pound prospect, shows athletic infield actions, fluid footwork, soft hands, has a quick exchange, loose/accurate arm at 80 mph across the infield.  As an outfielder, shows good feet, plays through the ball well, 81 mph arm with online carry, accurate arm.  At the plate, hits from open setup, smooth load, short stride, struggled to stay inside the baseball on the inner half but barreled the ball up consistently on pitches middle-out, gap to gap approach, ran 7.13 60 yard dash, 81 mph tee exit velocity, showed well on mound which will be featured in pitcher write-ups, good 2015 prospect.

Cameron Lord, 2B, Henry Clay HS, 2015
6-foot-1, 160-pound prospect with lanky build, shows athletic actions and soft hands, good lateral movement, made impressive diving stop in the hole, plays through the ball, good body control, shows the ability to throw accurately from different arm angles, 75 mph arm across the infield.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup, has a smooth load with short stride, fluid rhythm, line drive hitter with middle of the field approach, showed good barrel awareness squaring up several pitches in his round, ran 7.40 60 yard dash, 82 mph tee exit velocity, solid 2015 prospect.

Hunter Perry, 2B, Collins HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 140-pound prospect, shows good footwork and soft hands, quick exchange, works through the ball well, short arm action at 75 mph across the infield, accurate arm.  At the plate, hits from slightly open setup, slight load, short stride, gets some lower half involved in swing, line drive type hitter, ran 7.22 60 yard dash, 78 mph tee exit velocity, will continue to improve offensive game with added physical strength.

Sam Jiunta, 2B/OF, Henry Clay HS, 2015
5-foot-8, 140-pound, left-handed hitting prospect, moves well laterally, hands work okay, able to throw from different arm angles with some accuracy, 75 mph arm across the infield.  As an outfielder, shows athletic actions, plays through the ball well, clean exchange, over the top arm slot, throws stay online, 78 mph arm from outfield.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup, short stride, good balance throughout swing, tendency to collapse backside at times, short path to the ball, gap to gap approach with the ability to make solid contact the other way, shows good barrel awareness squaring up the baseball consistently, ran 7.47 60 yard dash, 78 mph tee exit velocity.

Class of 2016 prospect

Will Boothe, 2B/RHP, Muhlenberg County HS, 2016
5-foot-10, 140-pound prospect, shows good infield actions, fluid footwork, soft hands, plays through the ball, short arm action, accurate arm at 77 mph across the infield (6 mph increase over winter event).  At the plate, hits from a balanced stance, smooth load, short stride, good lower half torque in swing creates bat speed through the zone, short path to the ball, shows the ability to make hard contact to all fields, consistently squared up the baseball in a solid round, shows some occasional pull pop, ran 7.44 60 yard dash, 83 mph tee exit velocity, showed big gains over January 2013 event.

Class of 2017 prospects

Carson Coleman, SS, Lexington Catholic HS, 2017
6-foot-1, 155-pound prospect with lanky build, athletic prospect with good projectability, shows good lateral movement and soft hands, good body control, shows the ability to throw from different arm angles with short arm action, good arm strength for young prospect at 78 mph across the infield, accurate arm.  At the plate, hits from a tall, open stance, squares frontside with a long stride, uses good lower half torque to create some barrel whip through the zone, gap to gap approach, ran 7.19 60 yard dash, 80 mph tee exit velocity.  Coleman is a definite high follow in the 2017 class, potential high-level prospect.

Cam Hill, SS/OF, Scott County HS, 2017
5-foot-8, 145-pound, left-handed hitting prospect, shows athletic infield actions, fluid feet and soft hands, plays through the ball, accurate arm across the infield at 77 mph.  As outfielder, athletic actions, moves well, clean exchange and ball comes out quick, uses short arm action, very accurate arm with all throws on the bag at 83 mph.  At the plate, uses a balanced/wide setup, smooth load, good balance throughout, no stride, good use of lower half in swing, good barrel awareness consistently squaring up the baseball, shows ability to make hard contact the other way, ran 7.20 60 yard dash, 78 mph tee exit velocity, very solid young prospect.
