Unsigned Senior Games: Pitchers Analysis

On Sunday, October 19th PBR Indiana hosted the Unsigned Senior Games at Grand Park in Westfield, IN. A total of 54 players participated in the event, including two from Illinois and one from Tennessee. Below we analyze the pitchers that participated in the event. 

Top Ranked Pitchers

TJ Harmon, RHP, McCutcheon HS, 2015: 6-foot-1, 196 pound righty possesses an athletic frame with wide shoulders.  Above average speed with a long, loose action.  Tall to fall delivery.  Lands closed, falls off towards 1B side.  Fastball was heavy topping out at 87 mph with occasional sink.  12/6 breaking ball was thrown for a strike at 74-78 mph with early action.  Changeup thrown near fastball arm speed with some sink at 75-76 mph.  

Grant Rademacher, RHP, Munster HS, 2015: 6-foot-2, 170 pound righty showcased a quick, loose arm.  Tall to fall delivery with over the head pump and high knee.  Easy effort.  Showcased the ability to mix speeds well.  Fastball sat 83-85 and kept down in the zone with occasional run.  Slider sat 74-75 with late break and thrown for a strike.  Changeup is thrown with near fastball arm speed at 75-76 with sink, kept down in the zone for a strike.  Hard to square up.   

Bradley Busald, LHP, Rushville HS, 2015: 6-foot-5, 190 pound projectable southpaw pitches from a ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Long arm action.  Tall to fall delivery with regular effort.  Stays in line and lands square.  Fastball was up to 85 mph and kept down.  Breaking ball was 68-70 with a sweeping action.  Well built, pitchers frame.  

Pete Wissel, RHP, Blue River Valley HS, 2015: 6-foot-1, 170 pound senior showcased a quick arm from a long, loose action.  Easy effort with smooth rhythm.  Good direction to the plate, lands square. Fastball was heavy topping out at 85 mph.  Sweeping breaking ball shows early break and thrown for a strike at 71-72 mph.  Changeup was 70-74.  

Spencer Schriner, RHP, Home School, 2015: 6-foot, 200 pound righty pitches from a high ¾ slot with some arm speed.  Long arm action.  Pitches out of the stretch. Tall to fall delivery with easy effort.  Showcased smooth rhythm.  Good line to the plate, lands square.  Fastball is heavy with some sink at 82-84 mph and consistently in the zone.  11/5 breaking ball shows early action at 70-72 mph and thrown for a strike.  Good pitchability.  

Best of the Rest (In Alphabetical Order)

Daniel Balich, RHP, Hanover Central HS, 2015: 5-foot-11, 185 pound senior pitches from a ¾ slot with a long, loose action.  Tall to fall delivery with easy effort.  Rhythm is a little choppy  Good line to the plate, landing square.  Fastball topped out at 83 mph with occasional run and kept down in the zone.  65-66 mph breaking ball shows gradual movement and thrown near fastball arm speed.  Pitches to contact.  

Jonathan Blackwell, RHP, Castle HS, 2015: 6-foot, 170 pound RHP uses a long arm action and ¾ slot with above average arm speed.  Smooth rhythm and good line to the plate.  Lands square.  Fastball topped out at 81 with slight run.  Breaking ball shows gradual break and kept in the zone at 72-73 mph. 

Tyler Bradshaw, RHP, Franklin Central HS, 2015: 6-foot-1, 160 pound RHP showcased average arm speed.  Pitches from a ¾ slot with a short arm action.  Lands square.  Fastball was kept down in the zone at 80-82 mph.  12/6 breaking ball sat 70-71 with late action and thrown for a strike.  

Alfonso Casaday, LHP, Valparaiso HS, 2015: 6-foot, 185 pound southpaw uses a long arm action and ¾ slot.  Regular effort with average rhythm.  Good line to the plate, lands square.  Fastball sat 73-75 and thrown for a strike.  11/5 breaking ball was 62-63 mph with early break; slows arm down.  Changeup sat 69-70.   

Aaryn Chandler, RHP, Mount Carmel HS (IL), 2015: 6-foot-1, 180 pound senior possesses an athletic frame.  Pitches from a ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Long arm action.  Smooth rhythm with a good line to the plate, lands square.  Fastball was heavy and up to 82 with slight run.   11/5 breaking ball sat 60-61 with gradual break; tendency to stay on plane.  Changeup is thrown with near fastball arm speed at 69-70 mph with occasional sink.   

Joey Collins, RHP, New Albany HS, 2015: 6-foot, 185 pound RHP possesses an athletic frame.  Pitches from a ¾ slot with a short arm action.  Tendency to rush the delivery.  Lands square with a good line to the plate.  Fastball sat 70-74.  Breaking ball was 66-67 with a 12/6 shape and kept down in the zone. 

Daniel Connolly, RHP, Bishop Dwenger HS, 2015: 5-foot-9, 178 pound RHP possesses average arm speed.  Loose arm action with smooth rhythm in the delivery.  Fastball was heavy with occasional run at 82-84 mph.  Breaking ball was 73-76 with little break.  

Nick Cottongim, RHP, Plainfield HS, 2015: 6-foot-1, 250 pound senior RHP pitches from a low ¾ slot with average arm speed and a short, loose arm action.  Smooth, repeatable delivery.  Fastball topped out at 79 mph with slight run and thrown for a strike.  Sweeping breaking ball was an above average pitch at 67-68 mph with early break and thrown for a strike.  

Dominik Duke, Bloomington North HS, 2015: 6-foot-1, 220 pound righty possesses a big, strong frame.  Pitches from a ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Long arm action.  Lands square with a good line to the plate.  Fastball topped out at 78 mph with some run and occasional sink.  12/6 breaking ball shows late action and thrown for a strike at 65-67 mph.  Changeup was thrown with near fastball arm speed and kept down in the zone at 71.  

Jacob Fernung, RHP, Lafayette Harrison HS, 2015: 5-foot-11, 160 pound RHP pitches from a high ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Long arm action.  Tall to fall type delivery.  Choppy rhythm.  Good line to the plate landing square.  Fastball was up to 79 mph and thrown for  a strike.  11/5 breaking ball sat 67-71 with gradual break and also thrown for a strike.  

Seth Knuckles, RHP, Plainfield HS, 2015: 6-foot-1, 190 pound righty possesses an athletic frame with wide shoulders.  Uses a ¾ arm slot with a long arm action.  Tall to fall delivery, easy effort.  Smooth rhythm and good line to the plate.  Lands square.  Fastball topped out at 80 mph with occasional run.  Showed the ability to keep the FB down in the zone.  11/5 breaking ball was 61-62 mph with gradual break, erratic in the zone.  

Matt Kubacki, RHP, Chesterton HS, 2015: 6-foot-7, 230 pound senior pitches from a ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Long arm action.  Tall to fall delivery with easy effort.  Fastball topped out at 81 mph with late run and thrown for a strike.  10/4 breaking ball sat 70-72 with gradual break and thrown for a strike.  74-75 mph changeup shows some sink and thrown with near fastball arm speed, but erratic in the zone.  

Caleb Landrum, RHP, Huntington North HS, 2015: 6-foot-4, 175 pound senior pitches from a ¾ slot with a long, loose arm action.  Tall to fall delivery with easy effort.  Smooth rhythm and good line to the plate.  Lands square.  Fastball topped out at 77 with slight downward movement.  12/6 breaking ball showed late break at 68-71 and thrown for a strike.  Changeup shows some fade at  63-65 and thrown with near fastball arm speed.

Michael Lorenzi, LHP, Mount Carmel HS (IL), 2015: 6-foot, 225 pound southpaw possesses a strong frame.  Pitches from a ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Long arm action.  Easy effort and smooth rhythm.  Stays in line and lands square.  Fastball was straight sitting 78-79 mph.  10/4 breaking ball shows late break and thrown for a strike at 68-69 mph.  

Ty Mattix, LHP, North White HS, 2015: 5-foot-10, 150 pound southpaw uses a long arm action and ¾ slot.  Shows good direction to the plate, lands square.  Fastball shows some cut up to 72 mph.  10/4 breaking ball was 61-64 mph with gradual break; slows arm down.  Threw both pitches for a strike. 

Travis Mears, RHP, Brownsburg HS, 2015: 6-foot-2, 185 pound senior RHP showcased above average arm speed from a ¾ slot.  Loose arm action.  Easy effort.  Lands square with a good line.  Fastball was straight at 77-79 mph.  Showcased a sweeping breaking ball at 61-64 mph with early action.  

Matt Osborne, RHP, Hendersonville HS (TN), 2015: 6-foot-2, 185 pound senior possesses  a strong frame with wide shoulders.  ¾ arm delivery with above average arm speed.  Short arm action.  Lands square with a good line to the plate.  Fastball was hard with occasional sink at 78-81 mph.  12/6 breaking ball shows late break and thrown for a strike at 67-69 mph.  Changeup is thrown with near fastball arm speed at 75-76 with sink.  

Brandon Taylor, LHP, Terre Haute North HS, 2015: 5-foot-7, 155 pound lefty showcased average arm speed with a short arm action and ¾ slot.  Stays in line and lands square.  Fastball was up to 75 mph and thrown for a strike.  Breaking ball shows gradual break and thrown for a strike at 60-62 mph.  

Dylan Schildknecht, LHP, Carmel HS, 2015: 6-foot, 165 pound lefty showcased quick arm speed.  Loose arm action and pitches from a ¾ slot.  Smooth rhythm with easy effort.  Lands square.  Fastball was heavy and up to 81 mph with occasional run.  12/6 breaking ball sat 64-66 with late break and kept in the zone.  Changeup sat 70-71.  

Nate Wiercioch, RHP, Lafayette C.C. HS, 2015: 6-foot-2, 175 pound RHP possesses an athletic frame with wide shoulders.  Long arm action, ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Fastball was straight at 80-83.  Best pitch was his 71-74 mph slider, and above average pitch with late break and thrown consistently for a strike.  

Sam Wilson, RHP, Lawrence Central HS, 2015: 6-foot-3, 185 pound righty with a projectable pitchers frame.  Showcased a short, loose arm action pitching from a ¾ slot.  Easy effort with smooth rhythm.  Fastball was up to 82 mph with occasional run.  11/5 breaking ball shows late break and thrown for a strike at 66-68 mph.  Changeup sat 73-75 with occasional sink.  

Evan Yoho, RHP, Plainfield HS, 2015: 6-foot-1, 170 pound RHP possesses a strong, athletic frame.  Pitches from a low ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Stab on the backside.  Choppy rhythm.  Good line to the plate, lands square.  Fastball was straight topping out at 77 mph.  10/4 breaking ball shows gradual break at 67-68, but inconsistent in the zone.  Changeup was 70-71 mph.
