Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Dan Oaklief (St. Ignatius)

Dan Oaklief, a 5-foot-8, 170-pound prospect from St. Ignatius, is one of the top unsigned outfielders in northeast Ohio.

Oaklief, who hits from the right side, uses a slightly open stance and small leg lift. He displays an uphill bat path and pull tendencies. When it comes to speed, he has consistently been clocked at 6.8 in the 60-yard dash.

From the outfield, the left-handed thrower’s arm strength consistently registers in the low 80’s.

When evaluating his strengths, the outfielder says, “It would be my ability to get on base, hit for power to the gaps, and using my speed to be a difference maker on the bases.”

Currently, Oaklief is hearing from UNC Ashville, Tusculum (TN), King College (TN), Allegheny (PA), Piedmont (GA), and St. Andrews (NC).

Later this fall and winter, Oaklief will be attending prospect clinics at Tusclum and Elon.
As he considers the different factors involving in his decision, Oaklief says, “The most important factors for me when choosing a school are having a good comfort level with the campus and the coaches.”

In addition, he says, “I am looking for a school with a challenging academic environment.”

Last summer, he played for Team Ohio. Next summer, he will be with J & A Baseball.

He has a 3.5 GPA along with a 23 ACT.
