Class of 2023 Player Rankings (April)

The Fall/Winter have proved valuable for many 2023 prospects, with many names coming off the board to some of the top programs around the nation. Throughout the year we have traveled across the region to showcases and games.

That being said, we have had the pleasure of seeing a number of solid players this past year. Prospects are popping up left and right, making velocity jumps, improving 60-yard dash times and showing more power with the bat.

Below we will take a look at "What's New At The Top”, “The Risers”, "Guys To Keep An Eye On This Upcoming Summer" and some of the top uncommitted prospects by position.

What’s new at the top?

Alfredo Velazquez OF / LHP / Brother Rice, MI / 2023

Report: Velazquez is a 5-foot-8, 145 pound high skilled two-way freshman. In the outfield he has a quick first step while taking proper angles working towards the ball showcasing a throwing arm with carry at 85 mph. At the plate he is a gap to gap guy that does not get cheated, truly has a feel for his barrel at an early age. On the bump has a three pitch mix with a sharp biting curve, and has run his fastball up to 82 mph. Also runs a 6.87 sixty on laser.

Ryan Mooney OF / RHP / Orchard Lake St. Mary's Prep, MI / 2023

Report: Mooney is a 6-foot-2, 142 pound outfield prospect that has a plenty of game. Big time athlete plays football, baseball, as well as track and field. Shows good speed running a 6.83 on a laser while throwing 82 mph from the OF. Projects as a centerfield type and a top of the order hitter that sprays line drives posting an 88 mph exit velocity.

Risers

Carson Smith OF / RHP / Grandville, MI / 2023

Report: Smith is a 6-foot-2, 185 pound two way prospect that may be the most polished hitter in the class. Fast hands at the plate, consistently barrels the ball to all fields. Posted an 86 mph exit velocity. Shows clean actions in the outfield throwing 83 mph. On the hill he was also able to display  a three pitch mix with a lot of strikes.

Joshua Klug 3B / C / Traverse City Central, MI / 2023

Report: Klug is a 5-foot-11, 185 pound catcher that also plays the hot corner. His bat plays regardless of grad class. Big time raw power at the plate with some lift in his swing posting an 94 mph exit velocity. Had a 2.06-2.13 pop time while throwing 86 mph across the infield from third base.

Sawyer Peterson SS / 2B / Grandville, MI / 2023

Report: Peterson is a 5-foot-11, 165 pound middle infield prospect that dazzled during the Diamonds scout day. Posted an impressive 88 mph across the infield that puts inline with only 34 others across the country to throw 88 mph or higher in the 2023 class. Shows fast hands at the plate as well with the ability to go to the opposite field, posted an 87 mph exit velocity.

The Arms

Kyle Remington OF / RHP / Grand Rapids Christian, MI / 2023

Report: Remington is a 5-foot-11, 150 pound RHP that shows potential with the bat as well. Threw 86 mph from the outfield. On the mound he excels showing above average command with arm whip. Fastball was 80-84 mph with an advanced slider showcasing a later break and change up with deception.

Amare Snowden OF / LHP / Roseville, MI / 2023

Report: Snowden is a 6-foot-1, 165 pound prospect that has gained a lot of recognition on the grid iron, and has a high ceiling on the diamond as well. Slings the ball from the left side with a lot of movement. Fastball was up to 81 mph with natural left hand movement.

Jack Jones RHP / 3B / University Liggett, MI / 2023

Report: Jones is a 6-foot-3, 175 pound right hand pitcher with a tall projectable frame. Showcased an 86 mph exit velocity while swinging a wood bat. On the mound showcases good leg drive off the mound throwing downhill with an easy arm action. Fastball has arm side run sitting 84-85 mph, along with a late breaking slider and sinking change up.
