Upsets dot the Daily Roundup for Tuesday, April 10.



No. 3 Vianney was upset by DeSmet, 9-6. Vianney falls to 10-3, while DeSmet improves to 7-4

No. 4 Notre Dame (8-1) is no longer undefeated, losing to Jackson 5-4 in eight innings

No. 5 Springfield Catholic (8-1) got knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten, losing to Logan-Rogersville 4-3. Ethan Schlesener threw a complete game to pick up the win, surviving a three run rally by Catholic in the bottom of the sixth inning. Justus Boever drove in what would eventually the game winning run, with an RBI single in the top of the sixth that put Rogersville up 4-0.

No. 7 Clever slammed Galena, 20-3. Chance Wolfe continues his hot streak at the plate, going four for four with five RBIs. Ranger Curtis also had a day at the plate, going three for five with five RBIs. Clever is now 8-1 on the season.

No.10 Staley defeated Lee’s Summit North, 2-0. Pitchers Brian Young and Jordan Witcig combined efforts on the mound to lead Staley.

No. 11 Summit Christian got back to their winning was a day after their first loss, slugging their way to a 19-5 win over Butler. Jared Gage has a career day at the plate, and one of the best offensive performances of the season for any player, going three for three with eight RBIs. Gage had a two RBI triple in the first, bases loaded walk in the second, and exploded for five RBIs in the third inning, with a three run homerun and a two RBI double.

No. 15 Westminster’s offense continues to pile on runs, defeating Lutheran North 13 to 6.  Tate Matheny continued his torrid streak at the plate, going three for four with a triple, homerun, two RBIs and two runs scored. The homerun for Matheny was the twentieth of his career, breaking the homerun record for Westminster.  Shane Benes also had a day at the plate, hitting for the cycle, driving in three runs and crossing the plate twice.  Brett Bond and Bryce Bell also collected three hits apiece, with Bond driving in three run and Bell driving in two runs. Ben Mitchell picked up the win in relief, going three and two-thirds innings giving up two hits and no runs.

No. 16 Francis Howell Central was upset by Troy, 6-0.

No. 17 Parkway South defeated Northwest Cedar Hill 13-6

No. 18 MICDS was defeated in an upset, losing to Lutheran South 12-1. Ryan Strohm threw a complete game, surrendering four runs, and helped him self at the plate with two hits and driving in three runs. Dalton Schumer collected two hits and three RBIs while Ethan Krenning drove in two runs in the lopsided win.

No. 19 Francis Howell beat Holt 6-3.  Kyle Knutzel led the offense, going two for four with three RBIs. Austin Southmayd picked up the win on the mound, throwing four and two-third innings of scoreless ball

No. 21 Oran was upset by Cooter, 8-7.

 

In other action around the state:

Lucas Williams picked up the win and Tim Collins the save in a 3-1 win for Grain Valley over Platte County. Collins also picked up two hits to lead the Grain Valley offense

CBC defeated Chaminade, 5-3.

Rockwood Summit shut out Seckman, 6-0.

Marquette doubled up on Oakville, 6 to 3. Austin Fridley collected two RBIs and Matt Hink went the distance on the mound, allowing two earned runs and scattering four hits.

Webb City shut out Republic, 6-0, behind the pitching of Gage Belcher. Belcher went the distance allowing three hits.

Parkview defeated Glendale 8 to 3. Mitch Carriger threw a complete game in the win.

Oak Grove got by Odessa 1-0 behind the pitching of Conner Matson, with threw a two hitter and struck out fourteen batters.

Warrensburg beat up on Smith-Cotton, 10-3.

Dexter got by Sikeston, 5-4.

Truman came from behind to defeat Ft. Osage 5 to 4. Jake Wingo hit a two run walk off single in the seventh for the win.
