Upstate Baseball League Championship Pairings Set



DII Blatter 3 DII DI Staffen 2 (9 innings)
Korey Canton (Greece Odyssey) hurled a scoreless inning in relief and drove in Josh Ferris (Churchville-Chili) for a walk-off win to complete a dramatic comeback as DII Blatter advanced to the Upstate Baseball League DII Championship game. Ferris came home on Canton’s sacrifice fly. Down to their last at bat and trailing 2-0, Canton delivered an RBI single to plate Thomas Cole (Greece Athena) and get DII Blatter on the board. After moving to second on the throw, Canton scored the tying run on a Joey Alphonse (Greece Olympia) base hit into shallow left center. Andrew Hebert (Webster Schroeder) staked DII DIStaffen to a 1-0 lead in the fourth with an RBI single to left scoring Joe DellOso (Starpoint). Chris Goyette (Medina) doubled the lead when he drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh. Troy Leibert (Brockport) started and allowed one run on six hits over five innings for DII Blatter. Drew Treviso (Fairport) retired the first nine batters he faced and hurled six shutout innings before running into trouble in the seventh. Tyler Cerame (Hilton) finished 3-for-4 for DII DiStaffen. Ferris collected two hits. DII Blatter will face DII Maynard in Sunday’s final. 

DII Maynard 6 DII Sova 5
Zach Geist (Greece Athena) allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits over six innings to pick up the win as DII Maynard advanced to Sunday’s final. The right-hander struck out eight and walked one. Nick Stodgell (Brighton) finished 2-for-3 including a run-scoring double in a three-run third as DII Maynard took a commanding 5-1 lead. Stodgell plated Geist with a ground-rule two-bagger that trickled under the temporary fence in left field. Michael Contini (Rush-Henrietta) capped the frame with an RBI fielder’s choice. Malakai Taylor collected two hits including a run-scoring single in the fourth to push the advantage to five at 6-1. Victor Alongi (Greece Athena) doubled home a pair of runs in the sixth for DII Sova. Tristan Murray made it a one-run game with a two-out, two-run home run in the seventh. Evan Ziegelhofer (Webster Thomas) tossed two scoreless innings in relief for DII Sova. 

DI Christiano 11 DI Bunting 5
Nate Sanderson (Rush-Henrietta) finished 2-for-3 on the day including a one-out single that sparked a decisive five-run sixth, and DI Christiano advanced to the Upstate Baseball League Championship Game. Sanderson was the first of five straight to reach base as DI Christiano sent nine to the plate to turn a one-run edge into a six-run cushion. Jack Falter (Brighton) capped the outburst with a two-run triple. Jake LaPlant (Williamson) picked up the win allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits over five innings. The right-hander struck out three and walked two. Jake Loewke (Churchville-Chili) and Steven Kemp (Eastridge) both tossed a scoreless inning in relief. Amaury Samalot Jr. (Churchville-Chili) doubled to highlight a three–run second as DI Bunting took 3-2 lead. Jorge Oropeza (Greece Athena) and Austin Avanzato (Midlakes) collected an RBI apiece as DI Christiano took a lead it did not surrender in the fourth inning. Sanderson tripled home a run in the first. DI Christiano will take on DI Wiktorski in Sunday’s final. 

DI Wiktorski 6 DI Graham 5 (8 innings)
Ryan Lukas (Victor) worked a two-out walk, stole two bases and scored the winning run on an error as DI Wiktorski advanced to Sunday’s final. DI Wiktorski took advantage of two errors and two wild pitches to push across a pair of runs in the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Jarod Signorelli (Victor) tied the game with an RBI sacrifice fly. Jayson Faynor (Lima Christian) allowed two runs on five hits over 4.2 innings for the win. The right-hander struck out four without issuing a walk. Raymond Specht (Rush-Henrietta) finished with two hits in three at bats. Maxx Countryman (Avon) drove in a run and scored twice with two doubles in a losing effort. Zeke Humphrey (Charles Finney) went 2-for-3 and drove in Alex Vogt (Webster Schroeder) with a single in the fifth for a 4-3 DI Graham lead in the fifth. Ryan Hill (Webster Thomas) pushed the advantage to two with a base hit to score Dylan Mackenzie (Canandaigua) in the sixth.
