With the playoffs just about fully underway in Virginia, we will begin running our scoreboard daily.

Region 1A

West Point 1, Rappahannock 0
The two teams combined for five hits with Jordan Hoover being the tough luck loser while striking out 10. Landon Kelly threw a two-hit shutout in the win for the Pointers. Walker Rowe was 1-2 with the game's lone RBI.


Region 1D

Patrick Henry (Rye Cove) 7, Eastside 5
Patrick Henry rallied from a 5-2 deficit to upset the Spartans. Patrick Cruise was 3-5 and the balanced PH offense saw eight players get hits and six different players drive in runs. Cole Harness was 3-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs in the loss.

Honaker 17, Chilhowie 1
The Tigers got two home runs from Hartley Hilton as five players had multi-hit games and Chris Marshall earned the win, allowing 1 hit in five innings of shutout ball with 10 strikeouts.

Region 2D

Central 4, Grayson County 0
Tyler Muncy struck out 13 in a four-hit shutout and JP Stallard hit a home run.

 

Region 3A

Hopewell 4, Park View (South Hill) 3
The Blue Devils upset the Dragons in 10 innings. Ricky Jones (Richmond) was 4-5 with 2 3Bs and Dawsyn Hock was the winning pitcher with 4 innings of scoreless relief. Mason Mills was 4-5 for Park View.

 

Region 3B

Spotsylvania 2, William Monroe 1
Senior Jon Rivard (Virginia Tech) hit a a walk-off home run to win the game and Eugene Snyder threw five innings of three-hit ball and struck out eight.

Brentsville 5, Warren County 4
The Tigers clinched their State berth by scoring two runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh on a Collin Reid ground ball that got through the infield. Mason Posey (George Mason) was 2-4 and Billy Hoad was 2-2 with 2 BBs.

 

Region 3C

Western Albemarle 6, Turner Ashby 2
Jack Masloff threw a complete game and allowed just three hits while striking out 8. Garrett Payne (NC State) was 3-3 with a home run and 4 RBIs.

Fluvanna County 9, Spotswood 4
The Flucos punched their State ticket by pulling away with a six run fourth inning. Andrew Ward was 3-4 and John Rittenhouse had 3 RBIs.

 

Region 3D

No. 11 Abingdon 17, Lord Botetourt 1
Thomas Francisco (East Carolina) tied the VHSL record for career hits in the game and Kevin Christy (East Tennessee State) had 5 RBIs. 

 

Region 4A

Jamestown 6, Lafayette 1
EA Woolwine threw a complete game four-hitter in the win and Matt Lansford was 2-4 with 2 RBIs.

 

Region 4B

Dinwiddie 3, Lousia County 2
Dinwiddie scored two in the sixth to tie the game and won it in the tenth. Ryan Kelly earned the win with 4.2 innings of hitless relief and Tomas Sanchez (VCU) had a 3B and an RBI. Tristan Snyder (William & Mary) struck out 11 in 7.1 innings for Louisa. 

No. 10 Powhatan 6, Hanover 5
Powhatan scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to from behind and advance to States. Look for a recap later.


Region 4C

Fauquier 8, No. 6 Riverside 6

 

Region 4D

Amherst County 11, William Byrd 3
Timmy Byers was 3-3 with a 2B and 2 RBIs and Kyle Orme, Devin Sandidge, and Seth Mays were all 2-3 as the Lancers clinched a State Tournament berth.

Region 5C

Rock Ridge 16, Edison 3
The Phoenix got home runs from Ben Wright and Xavier Jessie (Frostburg State) as six Rock Ridge players had at least three hits.

No. 23 Briar Woods 6, Thomas Jefferson S&T 0
Jake Rayfield (Christopher Newport) threw a 2-hit shutout in the win and Nathan Cmeyla was 2-2 with a home run, a 2B, and 3 RBIs.

No. 15 Freedom (South Riding) 5, Stone Bridge 4
Freedom tied the game in the bottom of the sixth and walked it off in the seventh. Kyle Schofield (Frederick CC) was 2-3 and Jack Fitzgerald (George Mason) had a home run. Trevor McNicholas was 3-3 with a 2B for Stone Bridge.

Potomac Falls 4, Wakefield 1
Max McAdams went 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball to earn the win while also driving in a run. Nate Savino (Virginia) had two 2Bs and Drew Weidman and Thomas Dinneny (Susquehanna) were each 2-3 with an RBI.

 

Region 5D

Potomac 12, Albemarle 8
Brandon Cleveland was 2-3 with a 2B and 3 RBIs and Brody Mack and Julian Cumba each had 2-4 days with 2 RBIs as Potomac earned a State Tournament berth.

Halifax County 14, Mountain View 1
Halifax scored 10 runs in the first to earn a return trip to the State Tournament. Dylan Clark was 3-4 with 3 RBIs and a 2B and Dawson Watts had 4 RBIs. 

 

Region 6B

Thomas Dale 6, No. 4 James River (Midlothian) 3
Tyler Bailey and Cole Garrett hit home runs for Dale as the upset James River. Bailey finished 3-3 and Garrett was 2-5 with 2 RBIs and a 2B as well. Sam Reid had a home run for the Rapids and Ty Swaim and Jeff Daddio had 3-hit games.

Cosby 2, Franklin County 1
Cosby won in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off squeeze by Joey May, who finished the day 2-3 with 2 RBIs. Devin Miles held Franklin County to 2 hits in six innings of work in a no-decision.

 

Region 6C

West Springfield 3, WT Woodson 0
Jared Lyons (George Mason) struck out 11 in a two-hit shutout and Brett Stallings (Frederick CC) had a 2B and an RBI.

No. 2 Lake Braddock 15, Forest Park 1
Lyle Miller-Green (Virginia Tech) was 4-4 and Matt Thomas (William & Mary) was 3-3 with 3 RBIs as the Bruins advanced.

 

Region 6D

No. 18 Battlefield 2, South Lakes 1
The Bobcats scored both of their runs in the bottom of the sixth to come back and win with Zach Agnos (East Carolina) and Jake Michna (Queens) driving in the tying and go-ahead runs on sacrifice flies. Austin Estridge (Roanoke) was 2-3 and Agnos struck out two in the seventh to earn the save.

Chantilly 5, Centreville 2
Christian Parana had a three-run home run in the first and Nick Zampiello earned the win with 5.1 innings of scorless relief, allowing just three hits.
