Jamestown holds on to advance to the Class 4 State championship

The Jamestown Eagles jumped out to an early 9-1 lead after three innings then held off a furious Grafton Clipper comeback to advance to the Class 4 VA State Championship with a 10- 8 victory.

Jamestown once again came out of the gate swing just as they did in their quarterfinal matchup with Dinwiddie. A run in the first inning followed by a five run second and three run third that saw the Eagles load the bases in each frame, dong it twice in the second. EA Woolwine was the big hitter for the Eagles, with four RBI's in the second and third with 2-RBI doubles in both innings.

Grafton was abile to cut the score to 9-7 with a five run fifth inning after scoring one run each in the bottom of the first and another run in the fourth. Jack Daszakowski had an RBI goundout in the fourth, then hit a two-run homerun to left in the five run fifth for the Clippers.

Jamestown was led by Spencer Pietruszynski, who went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Woolwine was 3-for-5 in the game with four RBI and two doubles. Ryan Pastirik went 3-for-4 as well.

Grafton was led by Daszakowski, who had the three RBI going 1-for-4. Six other players had hits for the Clippers.

Seven run sixth inning propels Salem to 4A State Championship.

The Salem Spartans took advantage of a seven run sixth inning to erase a 4-1 deficit and defeat the Fauquier Falcons 8-3 in game two of the 4A state semifinals at Kiwanis field.

The Spartans had been held at bay for most of the game against Fauquier starter Carson McCusker until the sixth inning when the Spartans were finally able to get runners on and threaten in the top of the frame. McCusker was then pulled from the game and the Spartan bats stayed hot, putting up seven runs in the inning with timely hitting, putting the ball just out of reach of the Falcon defenders. Joe Quinn led the offensive attack for Salem going 3-for-4 in the game with two RBI. Parker Stallard added two RBI going 1-for-4 and Matt Wright went 3-for-4.

Fauquier was able to build a 3-1 lead heading into the sixth by scoring single runs in the first, third and fifth frames. Blaze O'Saben (UMBC) led the Falcons going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI. Cole Western went 2-for-3 in the game with two runs scored for Fauquier.

Caleb Lingenfelter got the complete game victory for Salem on the mound, scattering eight hits, with walking three and three strikeouts.

Salem will take on Jamestown in for the 4A championship on Saturday.
