With the playoffs just about fully underway in Virginia, we will begin running our scoreboard daily.

VA/DC SCOREBOARD: MAY 31

 

Region 1C

Auburn 12, Parry McCluer 2
Brady Harris went 3-4 with 2 RBIs and a 2B and Carter Keith was 2-4 with a 2B, a 3B, and an RBI.

Galax 13, Covington 1
Galax scored 8 in the third inning to break a scoreless tie and put the game away early. Five players had multi-hit games and Daniel Huff and John Key each had 3 RBIs.

 

Region 2C

Chatham 4, Fort Chiswell 2
Chatham clinched a State berth with a win in the continuation of a game that started Wednesday. Christian Lancaster threw three hitless innings to earn the win and Jacob Waters was 2-3 with 2 RBIs and a 2B.

Appomattox 11, Dan River 5
Appomattox eliminated the defending State Champions by scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a tie game. Jacob Johnson was 2-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs and Hunter Mohr was 3-4 with a 2B, a home run, and 4 RBIs.

 

Region 2D Championship

Virginia 6, Tazewell 0
Virginia shut out Tazewell for the third time this spring to clinch the Region Championship as Zach Griffith threw a 1-hit shutout with six strikeouts. Nolan Hoss went 3-3 with 2 RBIs.


Region 3B

Brentsville 6, Spotsylvania 3, Suspended in the 4th

 

Region 3D

Northside 9, Cave Spring 3
After a long wait to play the game, the Vikings used a pair of four run innings to earn their State Tournament berth. Evan Parks, Brandon Golden, and Austin Atkins all had three hits in the game and Parks was the winning pitcher with 8 strikeouts in six innings.

No. 11 Abingdon 15, Northside 2, Championship Game
Senior Thomas Francisco (East Carolina) set the VHSL career hits record in the game and had 5 RBIs. Tanner Barrs (Radford) also drove in four runs for the Falcons.

 


Region 4A Championship

No. 13 Grafton 4, Jamestown 2
Tyler Cotten hit a three-run home run in the first inning and Grafton starter Andrew Shartzer threw five scoreless innings to earn the win with Zachary Wojnarowski struck out three to earn the save as the Clippers won the Region Championship.

 

Region 4B Championship

Dinwiddie 11, No. 10 Powhatan 5
The Generals scored eight runs in the fifth inning to turn a 4-3 deficit into a comfortable win. Tomas Sanchez (VCU) hit for the cycle in a 4-4 day with 6 RBIs. Nic Rini (Lackawanna JC) was 2-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs for Powhatan.

 

Region 4D Championship

Salem (Roanoke) 3, Amherst County 2
Caleb Lingenfelter threw a complete game 5-hitter and drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Spartans locked up the Region Championship.


Region 5A Championship

Menchville 6, Maury 3
Menchville captured the Region title after Maury advanced due to a forfeit. The Monarchs broke a 2-2 tie with a four run fifth inning with Philip Forbes' 2-run single breaking the tie. Robert Avery was 2-3 with a BB in the leadoff spot.

 

Region 6A Championship

Cosby 8, Thomas Dale 1
