Playoff baseball is back in full swing. Look for all Region and State Playoff scores to be on the website the next day as we make the VA/DC Scoreboard a daily story the rest of the way. Yesterday, we had State Quarterfinals in DC and for the Virginia private schools, as well as District Tournament action in Northern Virginia with plenty of other games around the Commonwealth as regular season play winds down.

VISAA Division I

Norfolk Christian 4, Paul VI Catholic 0
Gardner Meeks threw a 5-hit shutout while Ty Johnson was 3-3 with 2 2Bs and Sebastian Silva was 2-3 with 2 RBIs. Patrick Ashby and Matt Coritz were both 2-3 for Paul VI.

No. 3 Benedictine 8, Norfolk Christian 8, Suspended to Wednesday

Cape Henry Collegiate 1, Bishop O'Connell 0
Aiden Kuhle (Roanoke) threw a 4-hit shutout with 8 strikeouts while also going 1-3 with a 2B. Peter Colevas was outstanding as well, holding Cape Henry to 1 hit in 6 innings while striking out 9.

Collegiate 4, Episcopal 2
Michael Stewart (James Madison) went the distance for the win, striking out 9 and allowing just 3 hits. Stewart was also 2-3 with 2 RBIs and Nigel Williams was 2-3 as well for the Cougars. John Moses was 2-3 with a home run for Episcopal.

St. Christopher's 5, Flint Hill 2
Patrick Routsis (Virginia Tech) picked up the win working 5 innings, Griff O'Ferrall was 2-3 with 2 2Bs and Curtis Hale had 2 RBIs and 2 BBs while going 1-1. George Rizzo was 3-3 for Flint Hill and Clark Agnew was also 2-3. 

 

VISAA Division II

Isle of Wight 7, Fredericksburg Christian 4
Kody Kosiorek was 4-4 with 2 RBIs, Ryan Boyce had a 3B and 3 RBIs, and Josh Savage was 2-4 witha 2B and an RBI for Wight. JT Carter, Joel Tarrh, Sabine Roane, and Ritchie Hartigan all had multi-hit games for FCA.

No. 4 Miller School 11, Isle of Wight 5

Steward 5, Nansemond-Suffolk 0
Logan Ransom struck out 8 in 5 innings of 3-hit ball. Alex Polling and Andrew Schmeer were each 2-3 with an RBI for the Spartans.

No. 10 Highland 8, North Cross 1
The Hawks scored 5 in the first and cruised to a win, Blake Fisher allowed 1 hit in 6 innings with 8 strikeouts. Eddie Gimbel was 2-4 with 2 RBIs and Ed Wagner was also 2-4.

No. 19 Greenbrier Christian 2, Atlantic Shores 0
JT Inskeep (VMI) threw 5 shutout innings with 6 strikeouts to pick up the win. Ethan Ott was 2-3 and Ryland Brown was 1-3 with 2 RBIs for the Gators. Nick Mattfield held Greenbrier to 5 hits in a tough-luck complete game loss, and Corbin McCloud was also 2-3 for the Seahawks.

 

VISAA Division III

Broadwater at Walsingham Academy, PPD to Wednesday

Fuqua 11, Portsmouth Christian 0

Southampton Academy 6, Tidewater Academy 2
Wyatt Jernigan struck out 9 in 5 innings to earn the win and also went 2-4 with 2 RBIs at the plate. Cameron Belter was also 3-4 with an RBI in the win and Dylan Rook was 2-4 with a home run for Tidewater.

Carlisle 12, Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot 0
Nick Duncan struck out 10 in 4 innings of 3-hit ball to earn the win. Garrett Kangas was 2-2 with 3 RBIs and Jacob Tisdale was 3-3 with 3 RBIs.

 

DCSAA

No. 1 St. John's College 24, Paul 0

St. Alban's 5, Maret 3
Joe Bladel was 3-3 with 2 2Bs and a 3B and Chase Daneker was 2-3 as the Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals. Jasper Whitney was 2-2 with a BB and an RBI for Maret.

Wilson 10, School Without Walls 5
Kevin Oakley struck out 5 in 3 scoreless innings, Colin Bosley-Smith (Duke) was 3-3 with an RBI and Alex Hill, John Lasser, and Charlie Ganote each had multi-hit games as well for the Tigers, with Ganote bashing 2 2Bs and having 3 RBIs. Peter Herrick was 2-3 with an RBI and Charles Home had 2 RBIs in the loss.

Gonzaga 11, Georgetown Day 1
Joe Manley threw a 6 inning complete game 2-hitter for the win while also going 2-3 with 3 RBIs. Jack Ewald had a 3B and 3 RBIs and Bradley Carvajal and Will Dolson each had two hits for Gonzaga.
