AMHERST - COVID-19 has helped make clear what Dylan Bailey wants to do in the future.

“I definitely feel if I was a nurse now I’d try to help as much as I could,” explained the Amherst Steele junior, who plans to follow in the footsteps of an older sister who is currently in college to be a nurse.

But there is also a matter of aspirations to play baseball at the next level.

“I went to my first PBR in eighth grade and started to realize that’s what I wanted to do,” related the 51st-ranked 2021 in Ohio. “I was going to events and getting schools reaching out.”

The Future Games expanded the number of colleges interested in Bailey, who has been in conversation with Central Michigan, Toledo. Ohio U, Charleston and Ohio Dominican in addition to Bowling Green prior to the Mid-American Conference school dropping the sport of baseball.

“That was definitely enjoyable playing in front of all those schools and showing that I could  play almost every position,” Bailey said of the PBR experience last August. “I was able to get the feel of what it’s like playing at that high-level competition. Everyone there was pretty nasty.”

The 5-10 160-pounder picked up a lot of knowledge at the premier PBR event of the year.

“I learned the pace of the game was quick,” Bailey pointed out. “Everyone was advanced. It was not a normal summer game, it was more like a Division I college game.”

Versatility helped Bailey attract the attention of colleges.

“It was after the Future Games when I started getting phone calls,” Bailey said. “My phone started blowing up. Before that it was camp invites, but after the Future Games I was talking with coaches.”

Bailey displayed an ability to excel at more than just middle infield where he has played most of his life.
