Throughout the West Virginia high school baseball regular season we will be posting a Power 5 in each classification. Updates will be made for Class AAA on Mondays, AA on Tuesdays and A on Wednesdays. Check back frequently at PBR West Virginia to follow team and individual results from the previous week. Today we take a a look at our week 3 A top 5.

CHARLESTON CATHOLIC

PBR Ranked Players:

1. Brandon Combs, 3B/RHP, #9 PBR West Virginia Class of 2018 Rankings, Transylvania recruit

Summary:

Charleston Catholic tenuously holds on to the top spot after a 3-2 week. Marshall Pile put together a 6-for-15, three runs scored, six RBI week. Brandon Combs was 6-for-11, scored five runs and drove in five. He also pitched a six inning, mercy rule, no-hitter, striking out nine. Jacob Hufford picked up two mound wins by throwing twelve shutout innings while striking out fifteen. 

ST. JOSEPH CENTRAL

PBR Ranked Players:

2. Lenny Washington, RHP/3B, #4 PBR West Virginia Class of 2020 Rankings

Summary:

St. Joseph Central was 3-0 on the week. Lenny Washington and John Piaskowski combined to go 8-for-16 while Hunter Eplin was 4-for-7. Solid pitching performances were turned in by Conner Sweeney: 7 IP, 1 ER, 6 SO, 1 W and Bronson Bender: 7 IP, O ER, 5, SO, 1 W.

WILLIAMSTOWN

Summary:

Williamstown moved to 9-1 overall. Individual statistics were not available.

WHEELING CENTRAL

Summary:

Wheeling Central went 2-0 to remain undefeated at 4-0 on the early season. Individual statistics were not avavailable

MOOREFIELD

PBR Ranked Players:

1. None

Summary:

Moorefield went 4-0 on the week. The Yellowjackets returned to competing against schools of similar size and easily won their first three games of the week. They were able to demonstrate resiliency when needed in scoring four times in the top of the seventh to defeat Berkeley Springs 5-4. Offensive production was distributed up and down the lineup. Garrett Haggerty and Blake Watts continued to impress on the bump. Haggerty threw 7.2 scoreless innings while striking out twelve. Included in that work was a  five inning mercy rule no-hitter. Watts threw a shortened, complete game, six inning shutout, striking out twelve.
