Welcome NEW Partnership: Mental Edge Coaching (Chad Hermansen)

Jeff Scholzen
Utah Scouting Director

As many of the parents, players, coaches and HS baseball fans in the state of Utah know, I look to partner with people and organizations that I believe will provide a positive impact on players and their families, through opportunities to be involved with mentors, instructors and strength coaches, that will enhance the player development needs of the Beehive state. I have longed to introduce and expose players to work with some of the biggest names in baseball, in letting players/families into my world of three decades of D1 coaching and professional scouting!

With Push Performance, the leader in baseball strength and player development in the region, “Push” has been a PBR Utah partner since January of 2021 and has helped develop many of the top HS players throughout the state with their “Push Remote” program offered from the comforts of your home and local based gyms. Push Performance has been a staple attendee at our annual exclusive invite event, The Top Prospect Games at Pleasant Grove HS.

I am now proud to announce another unique partnership with MENTAL EDGE COACHING.

Chad Hermansen will be in attendance at the upcoming March 4th, Preseason All-State event at Hurricane HS in Southern Utah. Chad will be available on the field, to interact with players, as well as  outside the park on the concourse, to interact with parents, in fielding questions, to learn more about what Mental Edge Coaching can do for the son's mindset and baseball career!

Former MLB player, Chad Hermansen hosts weekly (group) zoom calls for players. Parents are welcome as well on Monday nights from 8pm-9:30pm MT.

My son Grant Scholzen (U of the Pacific signee) is involved with Chad! This is a one of a kind opportunity to be involved with someone whose credentials are what players and parents are looking for! Use Chad NOW to tap into your mental strengths, and discuss and listen along with others, as you interact for only $25 a month, every Monday night.

There are other packages available as well, to further drive your mental skills development, with “one on one” coaching and training.

Side note with video below: Chad interviewed me back in April of 2020, about my life growing up in a small town and my baseball story, along with diving into a personal tragedy of my own, when I lost my first wife in 2014.

You Tube interview with PBR Utah Scouting Director, Jeff Scholzen

Chad Hermansen is one of my best friends in the game! A former 1st Rd pick (#10 overall selection) in the 1995 draft out of Green Valley HS in Las Vegas, Hermansen was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates and played 6 years in the major leagues for the Pirates, Cubs, Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays. Chad made it to the major leagues at the age of 21 after signing as a 17 yr old 1st Team HS All-American!

While I was the four corners area scouting supervisor for the Milwaukee Brewers. Chad manned the same role with my former MLB club employer, the Los Angeles Angels. When the CoVid pandemic hit, Chad and myself were casualties, and both of us were let go in the fall of 2020. Fortunately for myself and players throughout Utah, I was hired as the Utah Scouting Director for Prep Baseball Report.

Chad decided to train and receive mentorship from some of the leading Sports Psychologists in the business, to pursue a different route in the game. Hermansen trained during the CoVid shutdown, to begin his studies and training to be a Mental Skills and Life Coach, mentoring players and parents on the mental mindset of the game, as well as off the field struggles and challenges. Chad was a can’t miss MLB Top Prospect, as he was a top of the scale power hitting prospect, that produced HR totals from 1996 at the age of 18 until 1999, where he blew up A-AAA with 24, 20, 28 and 32 HR’s respectively!

But as is well known to scouts and  player development people, in the early stages of Hermansen’s big league career, after blowing through the minor leagues, an ill advised change to his hitting mechanics by a former hitting coach, who became a MLB manager, side tracked Hermansen’s development and as a result, left him doubting whether he belonged in the major leagues. Injuries also played a part, and this compounded the problem. Chad knows what it takes mentally, physically and with the right mindset on and off the field, to tap into the mental side of the game, so your baseball career doesn’t get side tracked with struggles of all kinds, on and off the field.
