Westin Edrington, 2013's 5th Ranked Prospect, Heading to Nebraska

PBR: How has your time playing for the Indiana Bulls impacted you as a baseball player?

Edrington: I believe that playing for the Indiana Bulls has been a pivotal part of going on to play college baseball. We play the best competition around. All of the coaches have provided me with a wealth of knowledge that I will be able to take with me throughout my life, on and off the field.

PBR: Why did you choose Nebraska?

Edrington: It would have been very hard to pass up the opportunity to play for Coach Erstad. He seems to really be a player's coach since he has lived it. The facilities are second to none and I believe that Nebraska provides me with the best opportunity to get better out of all the schools I was considering.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Edrington: My final five schools came down to Nebraska, Purdue, Arkansas, Western Kentucky, and Stanford.

PBR: Where did Nebraska first see you compete?

Edrington: They heard about me from an MLB scout that attended the Prep Baseball Report’s Super 60. Nebraska contacted me a few days later and made arrangements to come watch my high school practice. Coach Bolt, the hitting and infield coach came to watch me and I felt like our personalities matched up really well.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Edrington: I hope to come in and make an impact right away. Their current shortstop will be graduating and the position will be open for competition.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help Nebraska?

Edrington: I think that I have very good baseball instincts. I always try to think one step ahead of the opposition. I feel that this will help Nebraska because the shortstop has to be the leader of the defense, and I have the ability to notice the small things that can impact a game.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Edrington: My dad has had the most impact on me for sure. He played baseball in college and is the reason that I love the sport as much as I do. He has taught me more than anyone else and never refuses the opportunity to throw BP or to watch game film with me.

PBR: What was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

Edrington: The Area Code Games was a great experience. The number of scouts in the stands was incredible, and it really gave me the opportunity to measure myself against the best players in the country that were a year older than me.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter you have faced in Indiana?

Edrington: Jared Miller was the toughest pitcher I faced last year in high school ball, and Zach Farmer (Ohio) was the best pitcher I faced over the summer.

PBR: What are your goals both individually and for the team going into the 2nd half of your junior season?

Edrington: I am excited to just go out and play, now that I have committed. The only goal that my team has right now is to try to win out the rest of the season and take some momentum into the post season.
