What We Saw

POWER 25

Much of the Power 25 was involved in Spring Break tournaments this week. Multiple upsets and intense battles took place with unranked teams holding their own against the best teams in the state.

No. 3 Valley Christian

“23 OF Carmelo Rivera (Uncommitted) swung a solid base hit through the 4-hole.

 

No. 4 Villa Park (National Classic)

‘23 OF/RHP AJ Krodel (UCSB) had a couple of hits including a double.

‘23 INF Gavin Grahovac (Texas A&M) legged out a double and smacked a home run and also showed off the glove with a diving play up the middle.

A great play in the outfield by ‘23 CF Geoff McArthur (Uncommitted) saved a run with a diving catch.

No. 7 De La Salle

The battery of ‘23 RHP Cal Randall (UCLA) and ‘23 C Bear Harrison (Uncommitted) displayed a good showing for De La Salle.

‘23 INF Smith Chandler (CSUN) hit a rope through the 6-hole for a knock.

No. 8 Franklin 

‘24 RHP Nic Abraham (Oregon) showed a great performance in tournament play tossing a complete game with Franklin winning 1-0.

The one run from this game came via squeeze from ‘23 CF Tim Johnson (Uncommitted)

In a 1-0 game, pitching and defense have to show out, ‘26 Dylan Minnatee had a great catch.

On Tuesday, ‘23 1B Nolan Stevens (Mississippi State) whacked a double.

‘26 2B Jason Harris (Uncommitted) drove a nice ball but right at the center fielder. Harris showed off his glove later with a nice jump throw

‘23 SS Derek Pham (Uncommitted) and ‘24 C Jaydn Ramos (Uncommitted) come through big for Franklin and secure the win.

‘25 RHP Dylan Wood (Arizona) showed off a three-pitch arsenal.

No. 12 South Hills 

‘23 LHP Sterling Patrick (UCSB) stayed in control through five innings.

‘25 RHP Daniel Camou (Uncommitted) got out of a jam with his slider.

No. 13 Archbishop Mitty (Boras Classic)

‘23 SS Jarren Advincula (Cal) swung a hot bat, registering multiple hits.

‘25 RHP Monty Sunderland (Uncommitted) pitched and kept the game close against St. Mary’s.

No. 18 Bellarmine

‘23 3B Thomas Trombatore added onto a big lead for Bellarmine with a double.

‘24 RHP Ishaan Khambal (USC) showed good stuff and kept the game close before the eventual comeback by Bellarmine to beat Marin Catholic.

No. 20 Cardinal Newman (Boras Classic)

‘23 INF Brady Boyd (Westmont) hit an opposite-field bomb in walk-off fashion driving in three.

 

Elsewhere in California

San Dimas 

‘24 INF/OF Kasen Khansarinia (UCLA) hit one back up the middle for a single.

‘24 LHP Kody King (Uncommitted) put an end to a potential fourth-inning rally for San Dimas against Mira Costa.

‘25 OF Vaughn Coleman (Arizona State) drove in a run to add to the tally.

Mira Costa

‘24 RHP/SS Maximo Martinez (USC) showed off his three pitches by striking out three of three and then turned around and whacked a double off the wall.

Marin Catholic 

‘23 SS Carl Schmidt (Texas A&M) and ‘24 OF Jayden Lee (Uncommitted) tag teamed to get a run in with Schmidt doubling to the opposite field and Lee knocking him in with a single.

Schmidt showed the glove and made a clean play up the middle.

Lee drove in two against Clovis West with a single up the middle.

Clayton Valley Charter 

‘23 Ryder Helfrick (Arkansas) smashed a ball that was killed by the wind.

Woodcreek 

‘24 RHP Austin Nye (Vanderbilt) showed all four pitches of his arsenal holding the opposition scoreless through 4. 

‘23 INF/RHP Isaac Hawthrone (Uncommitted) laced a nice single.

Granite Bay

‘25 RHP Chase Bentley (Texas A&M) showed off four pitches in his appearance vs. Woodcreek.

Stockdale 

‘23 RHP Ryan Featherston (Oregon) was dominant, throwing a complete game and only giving up one run.

Vista Murrieta

‘23 C Roman Meyers (Long Beach State) smashed an RBI double to take the lead in the first inning.

‘24 RHP Vaughn Neckar (LSU) ran up the radar gun for Vista Murrieta.

‘25 3B Ryland Duson (Uncommitted) led off the game against Villa Park with a single.

Rancho Bernardo

‘23 1B Kevin Takeuchi (USC) came up big with multiple RBIs for Rancho Bernardo.

‘24 LHP Brady Dockan (CSU Fullerton) tossed a complete game shutout.

‘24 C Josh Hartman (UCSB) had two hits including a bomb.

Servite

‘23 INF Roman Martin (UCLA) was responsible for the ball hit that scored the tying run and showed off the wheels in the ensuing pandemonium on an error.

Liberty 

‘23 C Brady Reynolds (Stanford) led off his game with a knock in the lefty-lefty matchup.

St. Mary’s 

‘26 INF Dax Hardcastle (Uncommitted) displayed great hitting.

‘24 2B Rolen Reyes (Uncommitted) and ‘25 SS Brady Errecart (Uncommitted) both came up big in the seventh inning to drive in runs.

Del Norte

‘23 RHP Carson Reese (Uncommitted) tossed a complete game.

Eastlake

‘23 Matthew Duran (Uncommitted) had multiple knocks in a win for Eastlake.

‘24 Noah Betanco (Uncommitted) also had a couple of hits on the day.

Cathedral Catholic

‘24 OF/C Eli Selga (Hawaii) mashed a bomb.

‘26 SS Alex Harrington (Stanford) roped one to right for a double.

San Pasqual

‘25 RHP Evan Seneres (Uncommitted) tossed 5.2 scoreless innings.

Sante Fe Christian

‘24 OF Jack Haferkamp (UCSB) hit a massive homerun.

Clovis

‘26 RHP Logan Georges (Uncommitted) showed great stuff pitching for Clovis.

Bishop Amat

In an 11-pitch at bat ‘23 SS Isaiah Hernandez (Uncommitted) knocked a single after a long fought out at bat.

Westlake

‘24 RHP Andrew Habermann (Uncommitted) tossed five innings of solid work.

‘24 Nolan Johnson (Miami) showed off his swing.

Oaks Christian

‘26 OF/3B Quentin Young (Uncommitted) showed off glove work and a knock.

Redondo Union

‘23 RHP Cole Stokes (Oregon) mowed down the opposition.

Chaminade

‘24 RHP Jordan Rodarte (Uncommitted) kept a clean sheet in his appearance.

Calabasas

‘23 SS Phoenix Call (UCLA) showed off his glove skills and bat with a double.

‘25 3B Matthew Witkow (Uncommitted) got a hit to the opposite field.

West Ranch

‘24 INF Aiden Buntich (Uncommitted) continues his good year with a hit.

St. Francis

‘25 RHP Matt Holcomb (Uncommitted) tossed 5.1 scoreless innings.

‘24 INF Jedd Chang (Uncommitted) went to the opposite field for an RBI.

‘24 OF Luke Devine (Uncommitted) showed off an opposite field rope.

‘23 INF Brady Choi (Uncommitted) shot one up the middle.
