A perfect start to the season for Branson's Mike Compton

""Senior RHP Mike Compton started the season off with a perfect game on Saturday, recording a 1-0 against Carl Junction. Compton, ranked No.9 in the Class of 2011 and heading to Florida State next season, struck out 14 batters in the domimating start to the season.

"My arm felt great and I knew by the 4th or 5th inning that I had a chance for a no hitter or perfect game. I pounded the strike zone with fastballs and stayed on my game," said Compton on his performance.

"Mike was all over the strike zone," according to Coach Steve Lael. "You never expect a perfect game or no hitter for the first game of the season, we just want our pitchers to get a head and throw strikes. What we got was a typical outing from Compton, control of the game and getting stronger as the game went on. Overall, it was a great start for Mike and our whole team.

Branson scored the lone run of the game in the second inning on a RBI single from Brandon Seeley, scoring Brandon Frans from second.
