Another junior off the board, and other news

Ryan Fitzgerald, a Class of 2012 left-handed hitting SS from Fenwick HS, has verbally committed to Creighton University. The athletic Fitzgerald emerged as one of the top middle infield prospects in the junior class. As a sophomore at Fenwick, he batted .400 with 48 runs scored, 9 triples, 4 doubles and swiped 21 of 21 bases. Fitzgerald is also a standout hockey player, as he is a three-time nominee to the USA Hockey Player Development Team in Illinois.

Fitzgerald marks the second top-level Class of 2012 middle infield commitment so far, joining Stevenson SS Adam Walton, who earlier committed to Illinois.

In other recruiting news, Kenny Lowden, a RHP from South Elgin HS, has committed to Oakton CC.  The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Lowden features a lively mid-80s fastball and an athletic, projectable frame.

Jake Bulthuis, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound RHP from Lockport HS, has committed to St. Joseph?s College.
Bulthuis quickly gained attention after he no-hit state-ranked Minooka, and followed it up with a one-hit performance. Using a mid-80s fastball, a tight curveball and good overall command, he finished his junior campaign with an 8-1 record and a 2.23 ERA. In 69 innings, he struck out 82.
