Cathedral Star Pitcher Shatters Stereotypes

They have six National Championships, 33 College World Series appearances, a renowned coaching staff, and the winningest college baseball program in history. That?s where Cathedral Senior Pitcher, Dillon Peters, decided he wants to play collegiate baseball, at the University of Texas.

Peters is a 5 foot 10 inch left handed pitcher with major league heat. He frequently lights up radar guns with a fastball reaching 93-96 mph, and has a mound presence that bleeds confidence, automatically giving him an advantage over hitters. He possesses a strong mental toughness that keeps his mechanics sound throughout a game, regardless of his emotions. His command presence allows him to take control of any situation he may face while on the mound.

Peters is a product of top-notch travel baseball programs Indiana Prospects and Midland Redskins. When playing for the 16U Indiana Prospects as a freshman, he played alongside talented players Alex Chittenden (Louisville), Conrad Gregor (Vanderbilt), Tyler Jordan (Ball State), Stephen Snow (Purdue), Jake Straub (Northwestern), and Curtis Wise (Wabash Valley), all of which were top 100 players in the 2010 class. Even with all of that talent, Peters stood out as the best and most talented player of them all. In 2010, he helped lead Cathedral High School to a State finals appearance and the Midland Redskins to an AABC National title.
College Talk
Peters? recruiting process began earlier than most high school baseball players. It started during his freshman year when he took his first unofficial visit to Georgia Tech. That visit was then followed by visits to nine other schools, including 3 separate visits to the University of Texas where he eventually signed. When asked about Texas and why he chose to play for the Longhorns, Peters? answer was simple and to the point, ?Tradition.? Given the opportunity to play for college baseball?s winningest coach, Augie Garrido, is a once in a lifetime opportunity he simply could not pass up.   ?Playing in Omaha has been a dream of mine since I was a kid, and I believe being a Longhorn gives me the best opportunity to get there,? Peters said. He has hopes of becoming a weekend starter as early as his freshman year.
Draft Talk
Dillon Peters will be a much talked about prospect in the upcoming 2011 major league baseball draft. While there have been concerns regarding his 5 foot 10 inch frame, many area scouts believe his fast arm , sound mechanics, and ability to consistently throw four pitches for strikes erases any doubts some teams might have when just looking at his stature.
Skeptics will ask; Has he reached his peak? How will he improve? Can he improve? These types of questions make Peters smile because he is the type of athlete that will use these questions of doubt as even more motivation. Whether he goes pro or goes to college, one thing you can expect from him is improvement. Peters has been projected to be drafted somewhere in the top 10 rounds.
