Eight Missouri preps selected in 2011 MLB Draft

The end of Day 3 brought the MLB First-Year Player Draft to a close on Wednesday afternoon. Over the last three days, Prep Baseball Report Missouri had eight players selected in the draft, all ranked within the Top 15 Class of 2011 players this season.

Unfortunately, there were no Missouri players selected on Day 1 of the draft. However, the following day proved to be much more eventful. As anticipated, Warsaw SS Johnny Eierman was the first Missouri prep player to be drafted. The Tampa Bay Rays selected him towards the back-end of the third round with the 119^th overall pick.

The next player off the board was McCluer OF Lance Jeffries, who was selected by his hometown St. Louis Cardinals in the 10^th round. A few rounds later, the Kansas City Royals selected a hometown player of their own in Park Hill South LHP Adam Scchemenauer. The Royals selected the 6-foot-9 Louisville signee in the 12^th round. The end of Day 2 also saw Missouri?s Gatorade Player of the Year, Francis Howell RHP Brett Graves, drafted by the Cardinals in the 26^th round.

The final day of the draft began with SLUH LHP Sasha Kuebel?s selection by the Oakland Athletics in the 31^st round. After a 16-round lull, two Missouri preps heard their name called in the 47^th round. Moberly OF Corey Embree was selected by the Cleveland Indians, and then CBC RHP David Schmidt joined Jeffries and Graves as St. Louis Cardinals draftees.

The final player selected on Day 3 was Timberland SS David Masters, who was drafted in the 50^th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
